While it’s built around the same frame as its ICE counterpart, we have some bad news about its underseat storage….

Suzuki India has been testing the Burgman Street electric scooter for a few months now. Though Suzuki delayed its EV plans till 2024, a new development has renewed our hopes that this e-scooter might come out sooner rather than later. A new design leak has revealed more details about the Burgman Electric. The drawings hint that the EV makes use of the same frame pattern as the existing petrol-powered Burgman Street scooter. That indicates that there are no drastic structural upgrades and that the electric motor could produce power in the same vicinity as the existing internal combustion engine (125cc).

As per the drawings, the motor is neatly placed below the seat, while the inside of the floorboard holds the AC-DC converter.

It’s surprising to see that the Suzuki design features a fixed battery. It’s mounted inside a two-piece case under the seat. So though the Burgman Street is known for its extra-spacious under-seat storage, we’ll have to see if the same can be said for its electric counterpart as at least a part of this space will be used to house the battery.

The upcoming EV is likely to feature a frame-mounted motor (as can be inferred from the belt drive visible in the patent drawings and will probably offer an approximate real-world range of 70-80km. That being said, a fast-charging system or a swappable battery would certainly help curb range anxiety. Feature-wise, LED lights all around as well as a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity are likely to be carried over from its petrol counterpart.

Suzuki hasn’t given any hints about the market launch of the scooter. That said, even if it’s in the pipeline, it probably won’t see the light of day until 2023-24. We expect it to be priced around Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and it’ll go up against the TVS iQube Electric, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450 Plus.
