The numbers have their say as these 125cc family scooters go head to head
For a long time now, the Suzuki Access 125 has been India’s favourite 125cc family scooter. Even though it’s been around for ages, the classic styling still looks timeless. In our previous real-world numbers test, the Access 125 managed to trump the new Honda Activa 125 BS6 on most counts. Does it manage to withstand Hero’s challenge even now?
Acceleration:
Suzuki Access 125 |
Hero Maestro Edge 125 |
|
0-40kmph |
3.75 seconds |
3.52 seconds |
0-60kmph |
8.26 seconds |
7.57 seconds |
The Hero Maestro Edge 125 is the more powerful scooter of the two, racing quickly up to 60kmph. However, the engine is not the most refined of the lot, sounding gruff throughout the rev range. And this was the fuel-injected version of the scooter that we tested. But, if being quick is your priority, the Maestro 125 should be your choice.
Roll-on acceleration:
Suzuki Access 125 |
Hero Maestro Edge 125 |
|
20-50kmph |
4.64 seconds |
3.86 seconds |
Even when making a swift overtaking manoeuver, the Maestro edges past the Access. You will have to take into consideration its length and heft but it will gain speed quicker than the Japanese offering.
Braking:
Suzuki Access 125 |
Hero Maestro Edge 125 |
|
60-0kmph |
20.44m |
22.67m |
Here’s where the Suzuki claws it back as the Access manages to stop a whole 2.23m earlier than the Maestro. The brake bite as well as feedback is marginally better on the Suzuki. But it is keen to point out that both these scooters take longer distance to come to a halt than the Activa 125 BS6.
Fuel efficiency:
Suzuki Access 125 |
Hero Maestro Edge 125 |
|
City |

57.05kmpl |
Highway |
52.7kmpl |
56.48kmpl |
Fuel tank capacity |

Not only is the Maestro the livelier scooter of the two but turns out it’s also the more fuel-efficient one. The lack of fuel-injection on the Suzuki proves to be a bane in this company. However, we will have to wait until both, Hero and Suzuki, launch BS6-compliant versions of these scooters to make a decision for the long run.
