The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is built on an all-new J-platform. It features a completely new powertrain as well as chassis. Expect it to be priced at around Rs 1.60 lakh.Royal Enfield had planned to launch the all-new Meteor 350 a lot earlier but the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the schedule. Now, with the economy being a tad more stable, we’ve learnt the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is likely to be launched in mid-September. The Meteor 350 will herald a new direction for the brand as it is based on the J-platform, developed completely from scratch.
Going by the pricing leaked back in April, the motorcycle is likely to cost around Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go head-to-head against the Bajaj Dominar 250 and the Jawa Forty Two. At this price point, it will be around Rs 12,000 more expensive than the model it replaces, the Thunderbird 350.
The motorcycle is powered by an all-new, fuel-injected powertrain that is likely to offer a lot more refinement and performance than the age-old 346cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that did duty in its predecessor, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350. That engine made 19.3PS and 28Nm in its carburetted, BS4-compliant guise. In a bid to make the bike more highway-worthy than the older-gen model, the Meteor 350 could also have a 6-speed transmission.

Underpinnings are more or less similar to the Thunderbird 350, but with slight tweaks. The rear gets a pair of conventional shock absorbers instead of the gas-charged ones on the older bike, whereas the front end gets the same telescopic fork as before. Braking is via discs on both ends, presumably slightly larger than before, with standard dual-channel ABS.
