The bikemaker sold a little over 1,700 units of the 650 twins in October 2019

KTM sold 361 units of the 390 Duke, while Bajaj managed to sell 806 units of the Dominar 400.  Only 222 TVS Apache RR 310s were sold last month. The affordability aspect works in favour of the RE 650 twins. The Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 get a starting price of Rs 2.54 lakh and Rs 2.79 lakh respectively.

The 650cc twins have come to save Royal Enfield’s neck in a time of need. The Chennai-based manufacturer sold 1,724 units last month registering a YOY growth of 8 per cent. KTM, on the contrary, sold 361 units of the 390 Duke while Bajaj managed 806 units of the Dominar 400. As for the TVS Apache RR 310, it sold only 222 units in October 2019. That’s a cumulative sales of 1,389 units, if you were to consider the sales of the KTM 390 Duke, Dominar 400 and RR 310 together. And the twins decimated this number by a margin.

The Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 have been reeling in the numbers for Royal Enfield ever since their launch back in November 2018. An affordable price tag and retro styling paired with a sweet parallel-twin setup seems to have worked wonders for the brand. The highlight being refinement levels -- an aspect that eluded Royal Enfield in the past.

While the sales seem impressive, it still isn’t enough to get the brand out of its current turmoil. But, Royal Enfield plans to bounce back with its 2.0 strategy. This includes expanding its product portfolio, extending its reach, and using its digital platform to shape a global consumer brand from India. The second side of the coin involves tapping into the growing EV sector in India by introducing its very own electric bike

The new product launches will hopefully help the company achieve its double-digit growth target.
