The 500cc models have been quite successful for the Italian brand in India

  • The bikes will continue to be powered by the same 500cc parallel-twin motor.
  • Expect small change in performance outputs.
  • The TRK502 could receive a major makeover.

Benelli has been taking it easy when it comes to bringing in BS6 updates for its motorcycles. Its first BS6 motorcycle, the Imperiale 400, was introduced a month ago and the next set of models aren’t coming immediately. Thankfully, we have come to know that the TRK 502, the TRK 502X and the Leoncino 500 will be the trio of bikes that Benelli plans to launch by the end of 2020. The earliest we could expect to see the updated 500cc bikes is November and if the Imperiale’s pricing is anything to go by, expect a serious price increment for all three models.

Benelli’s parent company QJMotors has shown off multiple derivatives of existing Benelli models in its local market. Case in point, the SRT500 that is based on the TRK502. The SRT500 is slimmer, sports a clean look and is 10kg lighter than the TRK. Will these changes make their way on to the Benelli adventure motorcycle as well? We will have to wait and find out.

But what will remain constant on the TRK 502s, and also the Leoncino 500, is the 500cc parallel-twin engine. In its Euro 4 A2-license avatar, the engine was restricted to 47.5PS and 40Nm and the same was sold in India. The SRT500’s motor has no such restrictions and doles out 49PS. We for one would not complain about the extra power, especially on the TRK as it would help in moving the 220kg+ behemoth faster off the line.

Aside from the engine, we do not think that there will be any changes to the underpinnings of the two motorcycles. Both TRKs will continue to run with longer legs and fairly road-biased rubber while the Leoncino will retain its beefy suspension units and Pirelli Angel GT rubber.
