Sister company QJ Motor has filed documents for a new 500cc ADV based on the TRK

The onslaught of new Benelli models isn’t finished just yet, because the brand’s sister company QJ Motor has just filed type-approval documents for a new 500cc adventure bike in its native country. Called the SRT500, it appears to be largely based on the TRK 502, with the biggest difference being styling.

While the present TRK seems to be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, the SRT sports some very clean lines and has a slender look. This is in stark contrast to the plethora of bulky and awkward body panels seen on the Benelli. It doesn’t just appear slimmer; it’s actually 10kg lighter than the TRK, at 225kg kerb.

The pictures show at least three different variants of the SRT500: one road-focused variant with alloy wheels and an aluminium swingarm, alongside two off-road-friendly versions rolling on wire-spoke wheels. The only visible difference between these two is the higher spec Brembo calipers on one versus the unbranded (probably J Juan) units on the other.

Aside from these differences, the rest of the SRT seems to be pretty identical to the current TRK, even powered by the same 500cc parallel-twin motor and held together by the same tubular frame. But while the current Benelli is restricted to 47.5PS in order to be A2-compliant in Europe, the QJ manages 49PS in its home nation.

We already expect the naked QJ Motor SRK 600 to resurface as the new Benelli TNT 600 overseas; likewise with the SRB750 ADV, which we think will become the Benelli TRK800. So, will the SRT500 be sold as the new TRK 502 in other markets? Well, a close look at the handguards on the SRT reveals the letters ‘TRK’ embossed into them, and I think that tells you everything you need to know. We expect an India launch under the Benelli tag sometime next year at a price of around Rs 5.5 lakh to 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
