Good news for BMW Motorrad fans in India as the upcoming G310R street bike has been spotted testing. Two models of the BMW G310R were snapped testing on the Chennai-Bangalore highway. The upcoming motorcycle is the first BMW offering to be manufactured in India and the bike will be built by TVS Motors at its facility in Hosur. The G310R was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and received good response from Indian buyers. It is expected that the bike will be launched by October, 2016 in the Indian market with official BMW Motorrad showrooms being setup in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

What was interesting on the test bike was the fact that it didn’t seem to have ABS, signalling the fact that there will be two variants for the Indian market for cost cutting purpose. Also according to the test rider, the BMW G310R has a top speed of 170kmph and mileage of between 25 to 28kmpl. The above numbers are speculative though and we can confirm it only after test riding it. The styling of the bike is based on the BMW S1000R naked bike and it has many of the BMW design elements in its form. The overall styling isn’t brash like KTM but is more subdued to attract the mature riders.

The bike is powered by a 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 35PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox and the motorcycle weighs 158.5kg.The fact that the G310R is a single-cylinder offering means that BMW will be able to price the bike competitively and it is expected to cost around Rs 2.5 lakh ex-showroom. If it comes at the above price point then the G310R will be the cheapest BMW motorcycle on sale globally. The BMW G310R will compete against the KTM 390 Duke and the Benelli TNT300 in the Indian two-wheeler market.
