SZ-RR Expert Review
Yamaha SZ was introduced few years back as the third 150cc offering by the company in the Indian market after YZF-R15 and FZ. The bike makes a perfect match for those who prefer a good looking entry-level performance motorcycle that fulfills the value for money statement. However, it isn't one of the best selling products
of the company but still somehow manages to show a fair amount of sales in the company’s sales charts.
Yamaha SZ gets its power from a 153cc, air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve engine that comes mated to a five-speed constant mesh gearbox. It develops a peak power of 11.9bhp at 7,500rpm with a maximum torque of 12.8Nm at 4,500rpm and has a compression ratio of 9.5:1 with a bore x stroke ratio of 58mm x 57.9mm. Yamaha SZ-RR Version 2.0 houses a Blue Core enabled 149cc, four-stroke, air-cooled engine that has been paired with a five-speed constant mesh transmission. It churns out a peak power of 11.9bhp at 7,500rpm with a maximum torque of 12.8Nm at 6,000rpm. The bike runs on 2.75-17M/C 41P front and 100/90-17M/C 55P rear tubeless tyres with robust black alloy wheels. The suspension duties are carried out by telescopic forks upfront and reliable hydraulic coil spring shock absorbers at the rear. Yamaha SZ comes to a halt with a 245mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum brake.
The bike has been designed impressively keeping in mind the desires of the common mass and young generation. With a stylish headlamp at the front, the bike gets sporty tank shrouds that enhances its overall character. The seating isn't top notch but still it proves its worth in offering comfort to the rider and pillion. The machine has a fascinating rear end styling that is further intensified by the magnificent split grab rail. With body dimensions of 2,050mm x 760mm x 1,100mm (LxWxH), the bike has a respectable appearance in public. A wheelbase of 1,320mm and a minimum ground clearance of 165mm promises good handling and stability to the bike. The instrument cluster is old-fashioned comprising of an analogue speedometer, tachometer, odometer and fuel gauge.
Design
Yamaha SZ-RR Version 2.0 receives a stylish front section which is witnessed by a robust aerodynamic headlamp with a black coloured vior crowned over it. Furthermore, the bike comes wrapped in an impressive dual tone color scheme that make it more appealing. The fuel tank design is plain and simple that gives a good riding position to the rider. The integration of fuel tank shrouds further enhances the overall styling of the bike. Yamaha SZ has a long and sleek well-padded seat that provides an optimum comfort to the rider and pillion even on longer rides. The side panels get impressive dual tone treatment with matte black and looks premium. The rear end of the bike sports a stylish tail lamp section with split rear grab rail. The all-black theme of the bike makes it look even more robust and raises its overall aesthetic values.
The bike has body dimensions of 2,050mm x 760mm x 1,100mm (LxWxH) and a wheelbase of 1,320mm. The seat is mounted at a height of 800mm giving benefit to short heighted riders as well. A minimum ground clearance of 165mm offers a commendable stability around the corners due to low centre of gravity and mass centralization. Yamaha SZ has been assisted with a 14 liter fuel tank and weighs 134kgs. The instrument cluster has been revised but it still shows analogue readings and comprises of a speedometer, tachometer, odometer and fuel gauge.

With this configuration, the bike sprints from 0 to 60kmph in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 105kmph.
On the other hand, Yamaha SZ-RR Version 2.0 houses a 149cc, four-stroke, air-cooled engine that has been paired with a five-speed constant mesh transmission. It develops a peak power of 11.9bhp at 7,500rpm with a maximum torque of 12.8Nm at 6,000rpm. To avail a comfortable and stress free ride, the manufacturer has equipped the bike with reliable telescopic forks upfront and spring loaded hydraulic twin shock absorbers at the rear.
Features
Yamaha SZ has been assisted with a powerful 245mm disc brake at the front that offers a good bite and a commendable stopping power. It has a luminous and bright 12V-35/35W headlight at the front that delivers a steady beam of light even under low rpm conditions. The twin rear view mirrors alerts the rider of his surroundings and hence prevents any mishap. The tubeless tyres offer a superior grip and do not deflate suddenly in case of a puncture. These bunch of features make a bike a safe and worthy companion for daily commuting as well as long journeys.
