Should you spend the extra Rs 2,900 for the MT-15 BS6 over the MT-15 BS4? We give you a clearer picture

Yamaha had recently launched the MT-15 BS6. The motorcycle gets a cleaner motor but costs Rs 2,900 more over the BS4 MT-15 which is available till the April 1st BS6 deadline. So should you save money and go for the older bike or spend a bit more and go for the new BS6 one? Here are some points to give you a clearer picture.

BS6 variant makes less power now:

The Yamaha MT-15 BS6 shares its 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor with its BS4 predecessor. However, it receives BS6 updates in the form of a catalytic convertor and other minor revisions. The updated motor delivers 18.5PS at 10,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 8500rpm. It delivers  0.8PS and 0.8Nm less than the BS4 model.

BS6 variant gets a new colour:

Then new BS6 MT-15 remains cosmetically unchanged from its predecessor. However, it does get a new cool looking colour called Ice Fluo Vermillion. This was earlier seen in the international model and is now available in the India spec one for Rs 500 over the base model. The MT-15 has been a feature-packed motorcycle but the BS6 variant now gets an engine side stand cutoff switch.

Mechanicals remain unchanged:

The BS6 MT-15 carries forward the same deltabox frame, suspension components, brakes and wheels as its BS4 predecessors. The new addition is a rear radial tyre similar to the one seen on the BS6 Yamaha R-15 V3.0.

Pricing:

The base Yamaha MT-15 BS6 costs Rs 1,38,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). For Rs 2,500 extra you get a new rear radial tyre and an engine side stand cutoff switch. Add Rs 500 more and you get the cool-looking white paint job with red wheels. On the downside, you sacrifice some power. So if you want a better-looking bike with better features and do not mind the drop in power, the MT-15 BS6 is the one to go for.
