Vespa Elettrica Showcased At Auto Expo 2020

It graced the expo last time too, and has returned with a couple of changes this year

The Vespa Elettrica, which was first unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo, made an appearance once again this year with a couple of minor but crucial changes.
First and foremost, the scooter has been visually updated with neon yellow highlights. While it carries on the same neo-retro design language from Vespa, it's quite modern under the skin. Features like a full-LED headlight, 4.3-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, and rider modes should give you an idea. Besides, the console reads out a host of information including incoming calls and messages alerts, residual range and remaining battery range, all of which can be operated via the multimedia button on the handlebar.

Powering the Elettrica is a Brushless DC motor that's capable of delivering a peak power of 4kW and 200Nm of torque at the rear wheel. It features a 4.2kW lithium-ion battery pack that delivers a range of 100km on a single charge, which should be good enough for your daily commutes. And even if you happen to run out of charge, the scooter's batteries can be fully charged within 4 hours.
The e-scooter gets two rider modes: Eco and Power. The former restricts the speed to 45kmph (earlier 30kmph) and ensures linear acceleration; the latter offers the entire power output right from the get-go with a top speed of 70kmph. There's also a 'Reverse Assist Mode' to aid riders stuck in tricky parking situations.
Unfortunately, Vespa has no plans of bringing the Elettrica to India. However, the brand has revealed that it’s currently working on an EV, which is likely to be based on the Aprilia SR platform, designed in Italy but built on Indian soil for the Indian market. More information to follow...
