The Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-style scooter has been unveiled at Auto Expo 2020. The bookings will commence from August and the scooter is planned to be launched in mid-2020. Deliveries will start from the third quarter of this year.

The maxi-style scooter is likely to share its heart with the SR 160 BS6 and could produce the same amount of power and torque (11PS at 7600rpm and 11Nm at 6000rpm) from the 160cc fuel-injected motor. If we're lucky, Aprilia could tweak it for sportier performance too. It also gets a similar set of underpinnings as the sporty scooter. This includes the telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, a disc brake up front and a drum at the rear, with single-channel ABS. The wheels appear to be 12-inch alloys on both ends.

Aprilia has left no stone unturned when it comes to the feature list. It gets smartphone connectivity, LCD instrument cluster, all-LED lighting system. There's a generously sized seat and consequently it could have large underseat storage too.

As far as the looks are concerned, Aprilia has designed the scooter specifically for our market. While the design is sporty, the apron feels a little too bulky-looking and does not go too well with the traditional flat floorboard. However, the rear portion looks pretty sleek and modern.

In terms of competition, there are none in its segment but lower down the displacement category, you have the Suzuki Burgman Street. Interestingly, Suzuki unveiled the BS6-compliant version of this maxi-styled scooter at the auto expo yesterday.
