New Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin India Launch Confirmed

The new Africa Twin could get a price hike of Rs 1.5 lakh over the previous model

The new CRF1100L Africa Twin is powered by a bigger 1048cc motor.  It is lighter than before.  Gets cornering ABS, wheelie control, rear lift control and more. 

Honda is all set to launch the all-new CRF1100L Africa Twin in India on March 5. As of now, the Japanese bike maker hasn’t announced the prices, but we expect the new-gen Africa Twin to be priced at Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs 1.5 lakh more expensive than the previous iteration.

The 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin features the most comprehensive update ever. From its design to its underpinnings, Honda went back to the drawing board to make sure each and every component is new. The subframe on the new Africa Twin is now bolted on rather than welded to the main frame, making it 40mm slimmer than before. It is 6kg lighter than before and it now tips the scales at 236kg wet (DCT variant). 

The Japanese bike maker has tweaked the engine as well to make it BS6-compliant. The capacity of the motor has been increased from 998cc to 1084cc. Thanks to the additional 86cc, power output now stands at 102PS and 105Nm (7PS and 7Nm more than before). Honda has increased the cubic capacity by increasing the stroke from 75.1mm to 81.5mm. However, the bore remains unchanged at 92mm. We have just scratched the surface, guys. There’s a whole lot more going on with the new Africa Twin. It comes with a wide range of electronic goodies. For starters, it comes with HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control), cornering ABS, wheelie control and rear lift control. Moreover, Honda has equipped the 2020 Africa Twin with a brand new 6.5-inch TFT display with Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity! 

For now, the only BS6-compliant rival to the Africa Twin is the Triumph Tiger 900, which will be launched in India in April. But once more manufacturers launch their BS6 products,  the Africa Twin will lock horns with the BMW 850GS and the Ducati Multistrada 950 as well.
