MotoGP To Debut In India in 2023

Called the Bharat Grand Prix, it will be held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida

MotoGP fans in India will be able to experience the racing extravaganza first-hand in 2023 at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

Dorna Sports, the promoter of the MotoGP series has signed a seven-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Noida-based Fairstreet Sports, to bring the biggest two-wheeler racing spectacle in India. Fairstreet Sports will organise the Bharat Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida, which has hosted the Formula One Indian Grand Prix from 2011 to 2013.

While the dates for the Bharat Grand Prix have not been finialised yet, what we do know is that in addition to the premier class race, we will also have Moto2, Moto3 and MotoE races happening in India during the same weekend. Incidentally, this will be the first time a MotoE race will be held outside Europe.

MotoGP has been spreading its wings in Asia over the past few years, with the races  at the Buriram (Thailand) and Mandalika (Indonesia) circuits experiencing instant success. India is seen as the next stage of the series’ expansion in this region. 

MotoGP enjoys a significant following in India among motorsport enthusiasts, while two-wheeler companies having teams in MotoGP are also present in India such as Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM and Yamaha. This will be a win-win situation for both MotoGP as well as the Indian entities, as this global sporting event is said to bring in 50,000 jobs for the locals, while creating 5,000 jobs over the race weekend.

Such international events will not only boost local racing talent in the country and encourage more youngsters to take up the sport, but MotoGP will also benefit from onboarding a whole new fanbase. With the recently concluded FIM MiniGP series already motivating young Indian riders, the arrival of the MotoGP bandwagon is all set to give Indian motorsports an even bigger boost.
