Spotted with a colour TFT display

KTM India looks to be ramping up testing of the new-gen Dukes, as one has been spotted in the company of two old-gen 390 Dukes. Whether this test mule is the 2023 KTM 200 Duke or the 2023 390 Duke is tough to say, but the spy shots show the aesthetics of this upcoming Duke are identical to the latter.

While the new test mule spotted continues to sport an updated trellis frame with a bolt-on cast aluminium subframe similar to the bigger Dukes (more about these hardware changes in our exclusive here), what’s new is a coloured TFT display that our tester spotted on the bike. This TFT unit was visually larger and also had a blacked out section within, presumably for navigation.

This is exciting, as KTM was the first to introduce a colour TFT display in India with the 390 Duke in 2017; however, with other manufacturers rolling out tech-loaded TFTs on their bikes *cough* TVS Apache RR 310 *cough* over the past five years, this KTM unit feels outdated.

What’s also to be expected from the new-gen 390 Duke is a 399cc, single-cylinder engine that would replace the existing 373cc mill. While performance figures of this new engine are expected to remain the same at 43.5PS and 37Nm to be compliant with European A2 licensing category, reliability and longevity would be the key improvement areas KTM would hope to achieve.

This explains the numerous test mules of the new-gen Dukes being spotted here at home, as well as in Europe, and would also imply that the Mattighofen-based manufacturer would want this new mill to be tested extensively in all sorts of conditions before rolling them out to the public.

The 2023 KTM 200 Duke could be priced at Rs 2.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it around Rs 25,000 more expensive than the current model. Meanwhile, the 2023 KTM 390 Duke could see an Indian launch in February 2023, commanding a big premium over the older-generation model, somewhere around Rs 3.30 lakh, ex-showroom.
