How far above the 160cc segment does the Hornet 2.0 really sit?

The Honda Hornet 2.0 sits in no man’s land thanks to its oddball 184cc displacement figure. With these cubes, it plays neither in the 160cc segment nor the 200cc segment. But to see how far above the 160cc segment the Hornet sits, we’re comparing it against the new class benchmark: the Hero Xtreme 160R.

Acceleration

In 160cc company, the Xtreme 160R feels rather quick. It doesn’t have an explosive motor, but its light weight ensures it’s quite nippy. But when going toe-to-toe with the Hornet, it definitely comes up short. At the 60kmph mark, the difference is a fairly insignificant 1 second, but by the time they’re at 100kmph, the Hornet is a whole 5.5 seconds ahead. Its roll-on acceleration times are also considerably quicker than the Xtreme’s.

The Hornet 2.0, with its Nissin braking setup, is significantly better in the braking department as well. It’ll take almost 9 metres more to bring the Xtreme to a halt from 80kmph, and that is a lot.

Highway Mileage

The cherry on the icing is the Honda engine’s frugalness. Out on the highway, it’s able to sit at a more relaxed rpm so it can manage 8 more kilometres per litre, but even in the city, it manages to trump the Xtreme. The margin is smaller in the urban environment but kudos to Honda for building a quick yet frugal motorcycle.
