Honda Hornet 2.0 vs CB Hornet 160R: Differences Explained

Honda has launched the Hornet 2.0 which serves as the replacement to the BS4-compliant Honda CB Hornet 160R. If you’re wondering how much of a difference does the new Hornet offer over its predecessor, you’ve come to the right place.
Pricing, warranty & colours:
The Honda Hornet 2.0 is priced at Rs 1,26,921 and is available in only a single variant. Here’s a table comparing the ex-showroom, Delhi price of the Hornet 2.0 with the 160cc Hornet:
The bookings are currently open and the motorcycle will hit dealerships starting early September. While the 160cc Hornet was offered with a two year standard warranty with the option to extend it to three more years, the Hornet 2.0 gets a 3 year standard warranty. You can still extend it for another three years, thus giving you peace of mind for six years. The smaller-engined Hornet was available in five colours: Striking Green, Mars Orange, Athletic Blue Metallic, Dazzle Yellow Metallic and Sports Red. On the other hand, the new Hornet 2.0 comes in four colours: Pearl Igneous Black, Matte Sangria Red Metallic, Matte Axis Grey Metallic and Matte Marvel Blue Metallic.
The Honda Hornet 2.0’s all-new engine comes with a roller rocker arm to reduce friction and it also gets a piston cooling jet for better thermal stability. Thanks to these and the bigger displacement,it is more powerful and torquier than its predecessor. Interestingly, the Honda CBF190R sold abroad also uses a 184cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine. However, that motor makes only 15.09PS and 14.5Nm.
Underpinnings & Dimensions:
This is the first time Honda has offered a premium inverted front fork on a small capacity bike that has been manufactured in India. This enhances the Hornet 2.0’s premium appeal. We had hoped Honda would offer a dual-channel ABS but it seems to have skipped on that front. The tyres aren’t radial units like we expected, instead they are tubeless.
The lengthier wheelbase should make the new Hornet 2.0 more stable on the straights. Moreover, it also gets a slightly higher ground clearance which should be helpful while going over our notoriously bad roads unscathed. Despite packing a bigger powerplant, tweaked bodywork and underpinnings, the bike only weighs a kilo more than its predecessor, which is quite commendable.
Only the headlamp and tail lamp in the CB Hornet 160R was all-LED. On the other hand, the Hornet 2.0 gets an all-LED lighting system, including the indicators for that added premium flair. It also gets a new fully digital instrument cluster that is now adjustable for brightness. The console shows the gear position and packs a voltage indicator, both of which were absent in the 160cc Hornet. Another notable feature is the tank-mounted key slot as opposed to the smaller Hornet’s key slot near the handlebar clamp.

Compared to the CB Hornet 160R’s single-piece seat, the Hornet 2.0 gets a much sportier looking split seat setup with alloy pillion footpegs. It also gets an engine cowl for extra oomph. All in all, the Rs 30,000 premium is more or less justified as the Hornet 2.0 offers quite a few new features. However, it seems to fall short on performance compared to its rivals like the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200, at least on paper. Let us know what you think in the comments.
