Honda CB Hornet 160R: Company’s first BS-IV compliant machine

Japanese manufacturer Honda has recently launched its new CB Hornet 160R for India at an event in Goa. This new bike is BS-IV compliant and the company is aiming to incorporate this feature in its upcoming product lineup keeping in mind the new government rule.

As confirmed  by an online news portal, HMSI President and Chief Executive Keita Muramatsu has said that the upcoming models by the company will come equipped with BS-IV engines and other important features. Honda will start working on these required updates by next year and after that, there are expectations that a new product will launch every month. However, As Indian Government has asked all the manufacturers to produce BS-IV compliant machines before 31st March 2017.

Also, following the directions given by Government, the two wheelers that fall in the displacement category below 125cc, will be equipped with CBS (Combined Braking System). And products above 125cc would have mandatory Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS).

“The implementation of BS-IV norms and Combi Brake System (CBS) etc will increase the cost. And if like cars, if the BS-V norm is advance then the further cost will increase, nothing is predictable right now. However, we will try to find a cost effective solutions also.” said Keita Muramatsu in an interview.

What is BS-IV?

Bharat stage IV is an emission standard issued by Indian Government to regulate the output of air pollutants from motor vehicles and every engine equipment and BS-IV will reduce the impact of harmful gases produced by vehicles.

A Report mentioning the norm from an online daily:

As reported by a news portal, an official from transport ministry confirmed that no vehicles will be allowed in the country from April 2017 that are not equipped with such features.

The new norm will reduce the problem caused by air pollution, especially in metropolitan cities.
