We bring you all the details, from range and charge times to price and delivery details

Before you jump the gun, we’d like to admit that we listed down five important points about the Bajaj Chetak when it was unveiled back in October 2019. We also answered five of the most relevant questions asked by you folks. That said, with the official launch out of the way, there’s more information that needs clarification. So, let’s get to it...

Range + charge time:

According to Bajaj, the Chetak delivers 95km on a single charge via its IP67-rated 60.3Ah lithium-ion battery when going easy on the throttle in Eco mode. In Sport mode, however, the range is expected to drop a bit to around 85km. Mind you, these are real-world numbers according to Bajaj, so that's saying something.

As for the charge times, it takes up to 5 hours for a full charge, and an hour to reach 25 per cent. That’s quite the wait, to be honest. However, the scooter can be charged up to 80 per cent in 3.5 hours, which should be enough to get you home safely. Unfortunately, there’s no fast-charging option because Bajaj says it tends to deteriorate battery cells quicker.

You can choose between two variants:

Yes, you heard that right. The Bajaj Chetak is available in two variants: Urbane and Premium. The Urbane variant features drum brakes, a black seat, and matte black wheels compared to the Premium version, which gets a front disc brake, a light tan seat and grey/black satin wheels for Rs 15,000 more.

How much does it cost?

Thankfully, Bajaj hit the nail on the head with its pricing. The base Urbane variant costs Rs 1 lakh while the top-spec Premium version will set you back by another Rs 15,000, at Rs 1.15 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, after subsidies). Bajaj is also offering a 3 years/50,000km warranty on the Chetak’s lithium-ion batteries with the service interval being 1 year/12,000km.

When and where can you get one?

Customers can book the scooter for a token amount of Rs 2,000 via Bajaj’s official website or visit select KTM dealerships across Bengaluru (13 dealerships) and Pune (4 dealerships). However, you will need to head to the showroom for formalities like paperwork and test rides.

Granted, the initial phase only includes a couple of dealerships, but it will eventually cover all KTM showrooms across the country.

Competition check

Chetak’s pricing puts it up against the Ather 450. The base variant undercuts the competition by Rs 6,926 while the top-spec variant commands a minor premium of Rs 8,074.
