Royal Enfield is all set to launch its first adventure tourer motorcycle, the Himalayan on 16th of March. Earlier, during its unveiling, company officials had confirmed that the bike will be available for sale from mid-March. While it was unveiled before the 2016 Auto Expo, the company will begin accepting bookings for Himalayan once it is launched in the market. Although, the price of the bike has not been confirmed yet, it is most likely to be around Rs. 1.68 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi). Moreover, it hasn’t got any competition as no other manufacturer offers similar category motorcycle in the Indian market.

The Himalayan is a result of Royal Enfield’s work for the past 5 years. The chassis of the motorcycle is designed by UK-based Harris Performance and boasts of an all-new LS410 engine. This latest offering from the Chennai-based automaker is not just high on practicality, it also maintains the company’s tradition with the long-stroke engine. Royal Enfield is pitching it to be the most practical motorcycle introduced in India.

Powering this adventure beast is a 411cc single-cylinder, overhead cam, air-cooled power plant that has potential to pump out 24.5PS of maximum power and 32Nm of peak torque. The engine of the motorcycle is expected to rev more freely than any other Royal Enfield product. Its ability to run 10,000kms without an oil change is like icing on the cake for the long distance tourers. The bike performs in the same way on all the terrains.

The Himlayan has been rigorously tested and the company’s CEO, Siddhartha Lal himself rode this bike on difficult terrains of the Himalayas region. The first video of the motorcycle itself tells the difficulties of the tests which the bike has gone through and the broken footpeg while testing explains rest of the story.

With the launch of Himalayan, Royal Enfield is creating a new segment in the Indian two-wheeler market. Though Bajaj is also working on CS400, but no information about its launch has come out. We can’t wait to get our hands on Royal Enfield Himalayan. Expect a first ride review soon!
