Hero MotoCorp has announced a third consecutive month of double digit growth with sales of 6,12,739 units in April 2016. The company sold 5,33,305 units in the April 2015, equating to a sales growth of 15%, which both continues and builds up on the growth of 13.6% and 14% seen in February and March, 2016.

Models like the Splendor continue to drive in critical numbers for Hero and the brand has also been expanding its presence in the 125cc space, driven particularly by the Glamour, which grew by 23% in the last financial year. Hero MotoCorp has also been steadily strengthening its market share in the scooter segment, driven largely by the Maestro Edge and Duet.

Apart from expanding its model range, Hero has also been growing the number of testing and production plants. Hero’s new facilities include its Global Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan which was setup with an investment of Rs. 850 crore. The activities at this facility will include product design & development and prototype manufacturing, along with testing and validation. The CIT has test-tracks within the campus with 45 different surfaces to simulate real world road conditions, reflecting the roads in India and in markets overseas. The operations at CIT will be headed by chief technology officer Dr. Markus Braunsperger.

The company is also expected to start production at its upcoming two-wheeler manufacturing facility in Madanapalem, Andhra Pradesh in 2018. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government in September 2014 for this plant, which will be located close to the Sri City Special Economic Zone.
