Here are the upcoming big bikes of 2022

The performance-oriented motorcycle segment in India might be small, but there is a niche segment of buyers who would like to own one. So if you're an enthusiast looking to spend Rs 5 Lakh or more, this motorcycle list is for you.

Honda Rebel 1100

Honda is likely to launch the Rebel 1100 in India by April 2022. The cruiser motorcycle is equipped with features such as all-LED lights, a single-pod LCD digital instrument cluster, ride-by-wire, traction control system, cruise control, and even wheelie control. The Rebel 1100 will be powered by the  same 1082.96cc liquid-cooled engine that does duty on the Africa Twin.

Suzuki Katana

The Suzuki Katana is a well-known name from the brand's history, and we expect it to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2022. The Katana will be one of the most powerful street naked motorcycles on offer. The Katana is powered by a 999cc inline-four-cylinder engine and also comes equipped with features such as a slipper clutch, traction control system and dual-channel ABS as standard. If Suzuki plans to bring the street naked bike to India via the CBU route, it is likely to be priced at Rs 12 Lakh (ex-showroom).

Yamaha R7

In May 2021, the Yamaha R7 made its global debut, and we would like to see the supersport motorcycle in India as well. The India-bound model will be powered by a 689cc parallel-twin BS6 engine, and boast of features such as a single pod LED headlight with LED DRL, slipper clutch, an optional upshift-only quickshifter, LCD instrument cluster and dual-channel ABS. In India, the Yamaha R7 is likely to be priced at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Ducati is expected to launch three new bikes in India in 2022. The range will comprise the Multistrada V4 Pike Peaks, Multistrada V2 and the Desert X. The former two are likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2022 while the latter is expected to arrive by the end of the next year. The Desert X and the Multistrada V2 will use the same 937cc Testastretta engine that we have seen on the Multistrada 950. Meanwhile, the Multistrada V4 Pike Peaks will draw power from the 1158cc V4 Granturismo engine that makes 169.9PS and 125Nm.

Triumph Range

Triumph will also be bringing two new ADV's to the Indian market in 2022. The ADV range will include the Tiger Sport 660 and the Tiger 1200. The Tiger Sport 660 will be a proper road-biased ADV based on the Trident's platform, and as a result, it is expected to share similar mechanicals. The Tiger 1200 on the other hand, was recently unveiled globally, and we expect the motorcycle to come equipped with similar features and a 1260cc inline three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine.

2022 Kawasaki Versys 650

Kawasaki recently updated its middleweight adventure tourer, the Versys 650, globally with a few cosmetic as well as feature updates, while mechanically remaining the same. In India, we expect the latest iteration of the ADV to arrive by early next year with the same features such as a 4.3-inch Bluetooth-enabled TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, traction control system, and new multi-colour paint schemes. The 2022 Kawasaki Versys 650 will demand a premium over the existing model which is priced at Rs 7.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

KTM is gearing up for the launch of the 890 Duke and 890 Adventure in the Indian market. Both the motorcycles will be powered by a 889cc parallel-twin engine and are likely to arrive in India in the first half of 2022. KTM recently launched the latest iteration of the 890 Duke for the international market at USD 10,999 (around Rs 8.22 lakh) while the 890 Adventure already retails in the US at a price tag of USD 13,399 (Rs 10 lakh). Upon their arrival in India, we expect the 890 Duke to be priced at Rs 8 lakh and the 890 Adventure at Rs 11.50 lakh (both ex-showroom Delhi).

Aprilia Tuareg 660

In August 2021, Aprilia took the wraps off the Tuareg 660 for the global market. The mid-displacement adventure motorcycle is yet to be launched globally, and as a result, we can expect it to arrive in India by the second half of 2022. In India, the Tuareg 660 is likely to be powered by the same 659cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which we have also seen on the Aprilia RS660.
