2022 Kawasaki Versys 650 Unveiled Globally

The middleweight ADV finally gets a traction control system and Bluetooth connectivity!

Kawasaki has unveiled the 2022 iteration of the Versys 650. The middleweight adventure tourer has received cosmetic as well as feature updates, while remaining mechanically unchanged.

The updated Versys 650 gets a sharp, tall, and bulky stance thanks to its beefy body panels, sharp beak and windscreen, making it look similar to the Versys 1000. This is complemented by the aerodynamically shaped split LED headlights. It also comes equipped with a four-step adjustable windscreen, a generous 21-litre fuel tank, underbelly exhaust, split seat, tail rack and a lean tail section that houses an LED taillight.

Other notable features on the 2022 Versys 650 include an optional USB charging port, two-mode traction control, and a 4.3-inch Bluetooth-enabled TFT instrument cluster that can be paired with a smartphone via the Kawasaki Rideology app. This console further comes with an economical riding indicator that, as the name suggests, will help the rider to ride more frugally.

The 2022 Versys 650 is powered by a 649cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that sits in a tubular frame and puts out the same 67PS and 61Nm. All this power and torque is taken to its rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. The ride here is taken care of by 41mm inverted telescopic forks with adjustable rebound and preload and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Meanwhile, for braking, it employs dual 300mm petal discs with radial calipers at the front and a 250mm single petal disc with single piston caliper at the rear.

The price of the 2022 Versys 650 starts at USD 8,899 (around Rs 6.62 lakh) and the adventure tourer is available in three multi-colour options: Metallic spark black/Metallic flat spark black, Metallic phantom silver/Metallic flat spark black/Metallic spark black, and Candy lime green/Metallic flat spark/Metallic spark black.

Kawasaki could launch the updated Versys 650 in India early next year. Expect the updated iteration to be priced at around Rs 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom), a bump up from its current Rs 7.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India) price tag. The 2022 Versys 650 will go up against the upcoming Triumph Tiger Sport 660, and other middleweight ADVs like the Honda CB500X and the Benelli TRK 502.
