After the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Continental GT, Bullet 500 and Classic 500 also now get Euro-4 engines and ABS as standard safety feature

At the 2016 EICMA show in Milan, Italy, Royal Enfield announced its intention to launch its entry-level adventure tourer, the Himalayan, in the European market. There, it also showcased the updated model for the global market, which was sporting a Euro-4 engine and ABS as a standard safety feature. Now, the company has unveiled its 2017 range of global products, including the Continental GT, Bullet 500 and the Classic 500, which gets both of the features.

While the ABS rings are clearly visible on the brake discs, the 2017 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 and the Classic 500 also gets a rear disc brake, which was a major missing feature on these motorcycles. Other updates on the Classic are a new screw cap on the fuel tank and a slightly tweaked front fender. But the mandatory update for the global market was making these models comply with the Euro-4 emission standards, for which the Indian manufacturer has used a new catalytic converter.

Performance figures of the 2017 models are yet to be announced, however, no other changes in the engine has been reported. So, we can expect the power and torque output to remain constant or have a negligible difference as compared to the existing model. In the 2016 models, the 499cc thumper of the Bullet and the Classic makes around 27.5PS of power and delivers a peak torque of 41.3Nm. Meanwhile, its slightly bored-out version for the Continental GT puts out 29.5PS and 44Nm.

Royal Enfield is likely to introduce the 2017 model in the European market next month, with slightly higher prices expected thanks to the cost of the updates. For the Indian market, the bikes are expected to arrive by the end of March, 2017, again with increased prices due to the new equipment.
