From something sporty to something chill, your options are aplenty

If you are in your thirties like me, you'd remember, picking out your first bike in college was easy. Because the options were few and far between. Today, however, being a college kid is exciting. You have some very cool bikes and even sporty maxi-scooters to add some excitement to your college life, and all the while keeping the budget under Rs 1.5 lakh!

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V:

TVS is the only brand on this list to have a rich racing experience in India and the Apache RTR 200 4V is proof of that legacy. It's an entry-level “sport bike” but without the extra fairing. TVS races the Apache 200 4V in the Indian national motorcycle racing championship and even invites rookies to try their hand at racing. Outside the race track, this bike offers features unheard of in its segment and price point like riding modes. Check out the review here.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350:

The Hunter 350 is one of Royal Enfield's most affordable motorcycles. But unlike the iconic Bullet 350 which can seem a little 1980's in design, the Hunter 350 strikes the right balance between retro looks and modern hardware. The Hunter 350 isn't the most feature-rich motorcycle and misses out on things like a full digital instrument cluster and Bluetooth connectivity but it has a delightfully chill engine for all your first bike needs. Hero XPulse 200 4V:

Sitting in college but dreaming of going on an adventure to the mountains? Then the Hero XPulse 200 4V is the bike for you. Just look at it – long travel suspension, 21-inch and 18-inch wire-spoked rims, and a punchy four-valve engine – it's more than capable of handling adventures both on and off the road. Not to forget, it gets the backing and reliability of Hero's nationwide service network. Check out the review here.

Bajaj Pulsar F250:

The F250 and N250 now serve as the "biggest" Pulsars ever made, much like what the Pulsar 220F did for my age group a decade ago. Just like its predecessor, the F250 offers the right balance between thrill and practicality. The design of F250 is certainly handsome and the new engine offers a smooth yet punchy riding experience be it in the city or out on the highway. Check out the review here.

Yamaha Aerox 155:

Why is the Aerox cool? Well, someone at Yamaha had the bright idea of putting the potent 155cc liquid-cooled motor from the sporty R15 in a maxi-style scooter. The result- a scooter that wants to sprint like Usain Bolt from signal to signal. Speaking of signal to signal, the Aerox is so much fun that even Varun Painter from PowerDrift got one. He often uses it to travel between Pune and Mumbai because highway commutes are easy work for the Yamaha Aerox 155. Check out the review here.
