Meet The Zongshen G250R, China’s Quirky Answer To The KTM 250 Duke

Unveiled at the Chongqing Motor Expo, the bike looks suitable for new riders

Zongshen, a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer known for its big bikes and maxi-scooters, has unveiled its first streetfighter offering, called the G250R.

One look at the Zongshen G250R and you know it’s aimed at the younger audience. Flashy colours, edgy design and sporty graphics, all make the bike look youthful and likeable. However, a more mature audience will probably find it a little overdone at places, like the tacky differently coloured alloys.

Up front, the bike features a single-pod all-LED headlamp. The shape of the headlamp is quite unique, and it is flanked by sharp LED indicators. And just above the headlamp there’s a large rectangular TFT instrument cluster with optional Bluetooth connectivity.

The design is rounded off by a sporty fuel tank with sharp shrouds (reminiscent of the KTM 250 Duke) and a faux carbon-fibre texture in between. The tank can hold 10.5 litres of fuel.

Our favourite element, though, is the seat. With no traditional cuts or creases, the single-piece seat looks more like a cowl (similar to the current-gen KTM RC 390), lending the bike a razor’s edge tail section. At 805mm, the seat is fairly accessible too.

Coming to the engine, the Zongshen G250R employs a 249cc, single-cylinder motor, putting out 24.5PS and 21Nm. While this is 5PS less than the KTM 250 Duke’s output, the G250R with its low kerb weight of 145kg should be quite peppy.

All this is sprung on a USD fork and a monoshock. Braking prowess comes from single disc brakes at both ends, mated together by dual-channel ABS.

To conclude, the Zongshen G250R looks quite promising as an entry-level naked motorcycle. And if it were to come to India, we feel this would certainly steal some sales away from the KTM 250 Duke.
