The app shows fuel consumption data, vehicle health, last location, and even service reminders

Yamaha doesn’t just produce bikes, it makes some pretty radical scooters as well, case in point: the NVX. The company has now launched its 2021 iteration in Malaysia in two variants: Standard and ABS. The former costs RM 8,998 (Rs 1.61 lakh), while the latter retails for RM 10,998 (about Rs 1.97 lakh). For 2021, the NVX looks sharper with new colours, Red and Cyan, for the standard model and Platinum SE and GP Blue for the ABS variant.

The highlight for this year, though, has to be the addition of Yamaha’s Y-Connect Smartphone App which shows a range of information including fuel consumption, vehicle health, last location as well as service reminders. The NVX also comes with keyless ignition, an idle start-stop system, a 12V charging socket, LED lights, and a fully digital LCD instrument console.

It's powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled engine which produces 15.36PS at 8000rpm and 13.9Nm at 9000rpm. Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) ensures better bottom- and top-end performance. Pair this with a 5.5-litre fuel tank (0.9-litre more than its predecessor) and you should get a decent amount of saddle time.

The NVX comes equipped with a telescopic fork and a swingarm-mounted monoshock. A single 230mm disc up front and a drum brake work as anchors for the scooter.

While we would love to see Yamaha bring the NVX to India, it’s highly unlikely to ever make it here, purely due to its premium price tag. However, Yamaha could localise it, which would drastically bring down costs and make the NVX more accessible. It could then challenge the Aprilia SR160, which currently has no match in the country. Something to think about, Yamaha.
