Honda to launch CRF1000L Africa Twin in India by mid-2017 (or sometime later)

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), the Indian arm of Honda, plans to bring the CRF 1000L Africa Twin adventure motorcycle to retail showrooms in India by mid-2017, or a bit later. The motorcycle was first shown to Indian audience at the 2016 Auto Expo. Honda announced its plans to import Completely Knocked Down kits (CKD) of the motorcycle and assemble them in India to take advantage of the Make-in India initiative of the Indian government at the event.

 

HMSI's Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing Y S Guleria said the project of bringing the CRF 1000L to India was being overseen by engineers in Japan, but an earthquake in the country disturbed the alignment of several projects and hence caused delay in bringing the bike to India.

 

The CRF 1000L Africa Twin is powered by a 998cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. The Africa Twin can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission with on and off-road capabilities. The Africa Twin is built on a semi-double cradle-type chassis which makes use of high-tensile steel and has high ground clearance with adjustable height seat (High-871mm; Low-851mm). Electronic goodies on the motorcycle include Anti-lock Braking System (switchable at the back) and Traction Control System with four modes (including Off). The brakes up front sport dual 320mm floating discs with 4-piston radial-mounted calipers and at the rear, there is a single 256mm wave-type disc with 2-piston caliper.
