Yamaha R2 vs Hero Karizma XMR: Price Comparison

Yamaha recently launched the Yamaha YZF-R2 in India. We have compared it against one of its rivals, the Hero Karizma XMR. Here’s a look at how both motorcycles compare on paper. 

Price

The base variants of the bikes have a price difference of Rs 43,856 and on the top variant, the difference is a massive Rs 64,743. 

Yamaha R2 

The Yamaha R2 gets a sharp styling and has an unmistakable Yamaha supersport silhouette. The overall design of the bike looks like it is inspired by its bigger siblings from the YZF-R lineup, which are sold internationally. 

The bike is powered by an all-new 204cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. It produces 26.5 PS and 19.1 Nm. It gets 3 riding modes: Street, Sport and Rain, which alters the power delivery according to the mode selected. The R2 is available in 5 colour options: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Racing Blue, Matte White Pearl and the Metallic Gray (reserved for the M variant). 

The bike hosts a ton of connectivity and convenience features. It gets a 5-inch TFT display, which has Bluetooth connectivity, call/SMS alerts, and turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, it features a USB type-C charger to charge your devices on the go.

Furthermore, the main highlight of the R2 is the adjustability that it provides. All the variants get adjustable rider footpegs, where you can change the position according to your need. 

The top variant, R2M, adds to the adjustability bits, featuring adjustable clutch and brake levers. Furthermore, the R2 M gets a preload-adjustable KYB fork and a monoshock. 

Hero Karizma XMR 

The Hero Karizma XMR is a modern take on the older Karizma, which was originally launched in 2003. The motorcycle gets sharp styling, and the fascia features an aggressive LED headlight unit, giving the motorcycle an overall sportier look. The bike is available in 4 colour options: Phantom Black, Turbo Red, Iconic Yellow and Combat Grey.

The bike is powered by a 210cc liquid-cooled engine, which produces 25.5 PS and 20.2 Nm. Which is 1 PS less and 1.1 Nm more than the R2. We can expect the R2 to perform much better because of its power-to-weight ratio.The Karizma XMR weighs 163.6 kg (kerb), which is14.6 kg more than the R2. 

Feature-wise, the Karizma gets a TFT console which shows the odometer, speedometer, tachometer and a fuel gauge – all the necessary information. That said, Karizma does miss out on a few features that are offered on the Yamaha R2, such as ride modes,and traction control.

Both bikes make a strong proposition for people looking for a sporty motorcycle. The R2 has more features than the Karizma XMR, such as a bidirectional quick shifter and adjustable components in the mid and top variants. However, the added features come at a premium price tag. So if you are someone who does not want to compromise on performance or features and wants the best bike on paper in the 200cc segment, the Yamaha should be your go-to choice. However, if you are on a budget and want a more comfortable, easy-to-ride bike on a daily basis, the Karizma XMR is an option you should definitely consider.
