Interesting fact: These are the only 150cc bikes currently sold in India!

    BikedDekho News

With the Bajaj Pulsar N150 now discontinued, and almost all rivals moving to 160cc engines, the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid and Bajaj Pulsar 150 twins are among the very few ‘true 150cc’ motorcycles left in India. Yamaha currently sells 9 150cc bikes under the FZ range, including the recently-launched FZ-X Hybrid - making the Pulsar 150 the only non-Yamaha bike in the 150cc segment. So, which of these bikes makes more sense for a commuter who wants an everyday 150cc bike in 2025? Let’s compare the key specifications on paper.

On paper, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 offers a clear advantage in power. The Pulsar also makes peak power higher up in the rev range, so it should have an exciting top-end performance. However, Yamaha counters with mild-hybrid tech on the FZ-X Hybrid, which provides electric assistance during acceleration and promises better mileage. Despite this, the lower power output makes the FZ-X Hybrid feel more commuter-oriented, while the Pulsar retains its sporty commuter appeal. Interestingly, torque figures are quite similar, but the FZ-X produces it earlier, which could aid easy riding at low-speeds.

The Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid has a thicker 41mm fork with gaiters and a monoshock - making it more modern. It also comes with wider block pattern tyres - including a radial rear, which could enhance stability while cornering as compared to the bias-ply tyres on the Pulsar. The Pulsar 150 Twin Disc one-ups the Yamaha with larger discs at both ends. The Pulsar Single Disc, meanwhile, is more basic with a drum rear brake and a thinner fork.

The Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is the lightest among the three, but it also carries the smallest fuel tank. That said, its hybrid tech-enhanced mileage should make it just about manageable for occasional highway rides. Both Pulsars are heavier but offer significantly larger 15-litre fuel tanks, adding convenience for long-distance riders. The Yamaha also has the tallest seat at 810mm, while the Pulsar’s 790mm seat height will be more manageable for shorter riders. Ground clearance is equal across all bikes, and is adequate for Indian road conditions.

This is where the FZ-X Hybrid clearly dominates with the colour TFT console, traction control (not really necessary for a 150cc bike), hybrid assist and a Stop/Start system - none of which are offered on the Bajaj Pulsar bike. Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation is available on the FZ-X and Pulsar Twin Disc, but not the Single Disc.

    BikedDekho News

The Pulsar does get an LED tail lamp, but the rest of the package feels dated in comparison. The Single Disc variant feels very barebones, lacking many modern features. All of them have a USB charging port, though. While the Yamaha bike justifies its premium by packing in features, the Pulsar 150 will appeal to those who just want a simple, no-nonsense commuter.

    BikedDekho News

At Rs 1,49,990, the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is not only the most expensive bike in this comparison, but is also the costliest 150cc bike in India. While it offers more features and hybrid tech, the Bajaj bike has the upper hand when it comes to on-paper performance. The Pulsar 150 Single Disc remains the most affordable and practical option, while the Twin Disc provides a better braking setup for a slight premium. On paper, the Pulsar twins make more sense for traditional 150cc buyers, whereas the FZ-X Hybrid caters to those willing to pay extra for better mileage, tech and features - though arguably, it seems a bit overpriced for what it offers.
