Along with a quality finish that genuinely feels nice , it packs a sporty chassis with a 43mm USD fork and a four-piston radial front brake. The icing on the cake is its super-refined, liquid-cooled 37PS engine with a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. Plus, its switchable traction control and dual-channel ABS make for a perfect cherry on top. Everything makes for a perfect blend of modern tech, performance and classic inspiration.
Still, if you are not entirely sold on the Speed 400 and want to see what else the same kind of money can get you, there are some genuinely interesting alternatives around, each with a very different personality. Here's what else you can consider:
Jawa Perak
Price: Rs 2.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
If the Speed 400 is about well-rounded refinement, the Jawa Perak is about pure emotion. Teardrop fuel tank with gold pinstriping, floating single seat, slash-cut twin exhausts, wire-spoke wheels, the Perak gets everything right that makes it a pure custom-style bobber. It doesn’t have a pillion seat, nor storage, and minimal instrumentation. None of that is a mistake, but a compliment to its true old-school character.
Designed to look like a hardtail classic, it packs modern performance at its core. Paired to a six-speed gearbox via slipper clutch, its 334cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine makes 30PS and 30Nm that arrives nice and early in the rev range. Moreover, features such as a 7-step adjustable rear monoshock and dual-channel ABS make riding it comfortable and safe.
It is not an option for those who need to carry a pillion, even occasionally. However, for those who appreciate individuality and theatrics, nothing comes close to the Perak in this price bracket.
Harley-Davidson X440 (Standard)

Another machine with an iconic international badge is the Harley-Davidson X440. While it is the most affordable Harley one can buy anywhere in the world, it packs some essence and the core character of its bigger siblings.
First of all, its 440cc air/oil-cooled engine is not about revving hard but pulling effortlessly from low speeds with a deep, satisfying growl. But that doesn’t mean it is not a performance motorcycle at all. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, its motor produces 30PS and a very healthy 38Nm of torque, at just 4,000 rpm.
Built on a trellis frame, the X440 gets a KYB USD 43mm dual-cartridge fork and twin rear shocks with 7-step preload adjustability. The combination offers an optimum balance of sportiness, composure and comfort. Plus, its wide tyres, large disc brakes and dual-channel ABS make it a very confident cruising machine that is also enjoyable on daily rides.
Royal Enfield Scram 440
Price: Rs 2.23 – 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Scram 440 is built around the idea that Indian roads are unpredictable, and your motorcycle should be ready for whatever they throw at you. Its large 443cc air-cooled single is rightly tuned for an impressive low-end pull, delivering 34Nm at 4,000rpm. The chassis is its real story, though, with a 190mm travel telescopic fork, rear monoshock with 180mm wheel travel, 200mm of ground clearance, and a 19-inch front wheel. That setup soaks up rough roads with great confidence and composure.
The RE Scram 440 is available in two variants: Trail, with wire-spoke wheels and tubed tyres for better trail capabilities, and Force, with alloy wheels and tubeless tyres for convenience. The TVS Apache RTX 300 BTO is arguably the most versatile motorcycle on this list, with technology that feels almost unreasonably generous for its asking price. The 299cc liquid-cooled engine makes 36PS and has tech like ride-by-wire, switchable traction control, and multiple riding modes. Its six-speed gearbox with slipper clutch even gets a bidirectional quickshifter, which is a rare feature in this segment.

But the real reason to consider the 250 Duke is not what the spec sheet says but how it feels. At 162.8kg, it is the lightest motorcycle here by a significant margin, and that shows from the first corner. For city riding and weekend twisty-road runs, nothing here matches its agility.
It is not a comfortable touring machine, but for a rider whose riding is mostly urban, with occasional spirited weekend outings, the 250 Duke offers more fun per rupee than anything else on this list.

This is my choice because of the torque of this bike provides the light weight helps to find a better place in crowded lanes. Looks and Performance. Checked out a few bikes like the Duke 250 and the V-Storm. But this was much more refined and the best-looking one in terms of class. Fell in love with this after the test drive and decided I have to get this one. Feels a bit expensive, but you will forget the price tag once you own it. It's been amazing, especially on the highways. It's like a rocket on the right roads. The bike handles well in the city. It gets a bit too hot for long rides, but overall no issues. Gives a mileage of 32-33 kmpl on highways and around 20-25kmpl in the city. Would absolutely recommend this bike. If you love riding regularly and want a bike that's good for daily commuting and for long rides, I highly recommend this bike. People who are generally 5 feet 8 inches and above would be more comfortable, although I have noticed people who are much shorter handle it quite well.Read More
For my inter state rides as I currently live in Ranchi but my home city is Chaibasa so I have to travel between these city a lot and this bike feels best when I ride for a longer distance. The major reason was the height of the bike, as I am 6.1 ft 24M, it is the best height bike for me. As I can feel that this bike is not for daily commuters as it is quite big for the Indian roads but the whole seen changes when you ride it on highways. I feel confident while riding this, one of my cousin have RE Himalayan and when compared to it, this bike feel more agile and is more practical. I would recommend this bike to only those who wants to have a best all rounder bike as it has best in the market technical specs, (even I have not fully explored all the modes of the bike thus far), it feels confident to ride on in many situations. I chose Jawa Perak 334 mainly because iska look mujhe bahut unique laga single seat bobber style sab bikes se alag feel deta hai engine bhi powerful hai aur road par strong dikhti hai mujhe kuch hatke chahiye tha jo har kisi ke paas na ho isliye ye bike choose ki.
