There is a surprise entrant in this list

Scooters are always an interesting bunch. They are fun, easy-to-ride, and convenient, at least most of them. They are popular in the country, too. Here are the top five scooters that sold the most units in March 2021:

Scooter

Number of units sold

Honda Activa

199,208

TVS Jupiter

57,206

Suzuki Access 125

48,672

Hero Pleasure Plus

28,516

TVS NTorq 125

26,851

No surprises here, as the Honda Activa has been the Numero Uno among scooters for what seems like an eternity. While these are combined figures of both the Activa 6G and Activa 125, the brand has become synonymous with ‘scooters’ in the country.

With the Jupiter, TVS has been at number two for a while now. It had overtaken the Suzuki Access 125 a couple of months ago, selling around 9,000 units more than the sensible 125cc Japanese scooter.

The performance of the Hero Pleasure Plus has been a welcome surprise. Until February, it was the Honda Dio at number four, with the TVS NTorq 125 and Pleasure right behind. But the Dio has since had a drop of around 4,000 units, slipping down the pecking order. And even though the NTorq sold 2,000 units more than it did in February, the Hero lightweight scooter sold 5,000 units more. We think all the offers towards the end of the previous financial year helped the Pleasure’s case. Will there be more disruption in April? Let’s wait it out and see.
