The Japanese brand has sent us a ‘Block your date’ invite for October 7

  • The smartphone-compatible feature is likely to be called Suzuki Ride Connect.
  • This name was trademarked in India in January.
  • These variants are likely to be dearer by around Rs 1,500.

Suzuki India has sent us a ‘Block your date’ invite for October 7 with the tagline “Introducing A Superior Way To Ride”. If that wasn’t enough, the brand had trademarked the name “Suzuki Ride Connect” back in January this year. With this, it is evident that the brand is going to introduce smartphone-compatible instrument clusters for its two-wheelers.

Interestingly, the Suzuki Gixxer, Gixxer SF, Gixxer 250 as well as the Gixxer SF 250 share the same instrument cluster with the only difference being the negative-LCD setup in the quarter-litre twins. Expect all four motorcycles to be updated with the new cluster. While the Suzuki Burgman Street gets a slightly different console, it is also expected to be updated with the new smartphone-compatible one. That should give it an edge over the Suzuki Access 125 and it should also help the scooter go up against the TVS Ntorq 125, which was the first scooter to get a smartphone-compatible cluster in its segment in India.

The new console is expected to be linked to the smartphone via a dedicated app and could offer features like turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, ride statistics and perhaps even real time and average mileage indication if we’re lucky. It’s worth recalling that the BS6-compliant iterations of all five two-wheelers had barely any feature additions apart from the cleaner motor. This new feature should help make Suzuki’s two-wheelers a lot more alluring than before.

Expect the smartphone-compatible variants to be priced at a premium of around Rs 1,500 over the standard ones. Here are the current prices of select Suzuki models (ex-showroom Delhi):

  • Gixxer: Rs 1,13,941
  • Gixxer SF: Rs 1,23,940
  • Gixxer 250: Rs 1,65,441
  • Gixxer SF 250: Rs 1,76,140
  • Burgman Street: Rs 79,700

In a related development, Suzuki also plans to add new colour schemes for the Gixxer range. You can read all about it here.
