The GST pricing is effective from today
Royal Enfield recently sent out the latest ex-showroom price list of all the bikes as per the new GST 2.0 regulations. With the new GST norms, two-wheelers with engine capacities more than 350cc now attract 40% GST, as opposed to the earlier 31% (28% GST and an additional 3% cess). Consequently, all Royal Enfield bikes with engines above 350cc will get costlier. In this article, we will be comparing the old vs new GST prices:

For the first time, the Himalayan 450 has breached the Rs 3 lakh mark. Interestingly, the price of its main rival KTM 390 Adventure remains unchanged as KTM decided to absorb the GST-led price hikes for now. Hence, the price gap between the KTM and the Royal Enfield adventure bike has gotten even closer. The Himalayan 450 top-end variant is about Rs 48,000 cheaper than the KTM 390 Adventure, so buyers who want a lighter adv bike, that’s also powerful and feature-packed may find it worth to spend a little extra and go for the 390 ADV instead.

Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is based on the same platform as the Himalayan 450, but in a lighter, more compact, and more accessible roadster package. It is available in three variants. Check old vs new GST prices of the bike in the table below

The Guerrilla 450 has now become a bit costly for what it offers - especially when you factor in the Triumph Speed 400’s price. Triumph decided to absorb the GST impact, so the price of the Speed 400 remains unchanged at Rs 2,50,551 (ex-showroom Delhi), making it slightly cheaper than the base variant of the Guerrilla 450. Both have somewhat similar levels of performance but the Speed 400 is a bit lighter, comes with a slightly larger fuel tank capacity and also has the unmistakable Triumph badge value.

Royal Enfield Scram 440
The Royal Enfield Scram 440, is a scrambler that can do trail riding as well as a bit of highway touring. It is available in two variants: Trail and Force, and gets five paint schemes. Here’s a comparison of the bike’s old vs new GST prices:

The Scram 440 now feels too expensive, especially considering the fact that you can get the Yezdi Scrambler - a peppy 300cc liquid-cooled scrambler for Rs 1,95,345 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is a lot less than the Scram 440’s new price.

All in all, the increased GST on sub-500cc bikes will pinch the pockets, but the hike is still somewhat nominal – especially to those who are looking to spend over Rs 2 lakh on a motorcycle and may not necessarily be deal-breaking. That said, some might look for alternatives from rival brands, especially if capable options are available at around the same price point – as is the case with the Scram 440.
