Update - Honda CB300R Launched In India

Honda is likely to launch its neo-retro naked in February; deliveries to begin in a phased manner

  • Honda to offer the international-spec CB300R in India.
  • Sources tell us the bike’s CKD kits have already arrived in India.
  • Assembly to begin once a reasonable number of bookings are confirmed.
  • Launch to happen in February while deliveries will start in a phased manner from April.

Honda created ripples in the Indian two-wheeler scene by announcing it would bring the CB300R to India. But the announcement offered little in terms of the bike’s expected launch and delivery dates, test ride availability and most importantly, if Honda will bring the international-spec CB300R to India. However, our sources have confirmed some important details of the bike’s launch and specifications.

First up, the Honda CB300R will be officially launched in India in February. Honda has said the bike will be brought to India as a CKD, and our sources tell us the kits have already arrived in the country. They will be assembled once a reasonable number of bookings for the bike are confirmed. However, there was no clarity on what this ‘reasonable’ figure might be. This is also possibly why deliveries of the CB300R are planned for April and May. Moreover, our sources confirmed that deliveries for the red-coloured CB300R will start in April while those for the black colour will start in May. Bookings for the bike have already begun for an amount of Rs 5,000.

Although Honda has started accepting bookings for the CB300R, the bike will be sold only through 22 Wing World dealerships initially. The Wing World series of Honda dealerships specialises in the sale and service of the company’s higher-end bikes in India. This would ensure the buying experience for the CB300R befits its premium status.

Honda will also bring the international-spec CB300R to Indian shores. This should allay any fears that the company might have used lower-spec components on the bike, given the sub-Rs 2.5 lakh ex-showroom pricing it announced. So for India, the CB300R will get 41mm USD forks, all-LED lighting, fully-digital instrument console and Dunlop tyres. As for pricing, the bike could retail for around Rs 3 lakh on-road, depending upon the state where you live.

We, for one, are quite excited by this move from Honda. The company had stayed away from launching any new products since the CBR 250R in the budget performance space, which as a segment has grown in volumes of late. The CB300R thus, will mark the revival of Honda in the sub-400cc segment and it couldn’t have come sooner.
