Honda Activa Vs TVS Jupiter 110: Family Scooters Compared

Two of the best 110cc family scooter compared in detail

The Honda Activa 6G and the TVS Jupiter 110 are two of the best-selling 110cc scooters in India. Both of these family scooters offer a great combination of styling, practicality and performance, but which one is better? Here is a detailed comparison between these two 110cc family scooters:

Design

The Honda Activa uses a familiar design which has been appreciated by the country for a really long time. It gets nicely designed metal panels, with smooth lines which makes the scooter look quite appealing. Other than this, it also gets chrome elements near the front apron and chrome badging which makes it look premium.

In comparison, the Jupiter 110 looks a lot more fresh and appealing than the Activa, with its striking design, LED DRL, and neatly integrated chrome elements. Other than this, it also comes with 12-inch alloy wheels which enhances its overall looks. Both of these scooters are available in the exciting colour options, but it's the Jupiter which offers slightly more exciting looking colour options.

Performance

Both of these family scooters use a 110cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor. The one in the Activa produces 7.9PS and 9.05Nm. This engine has remained fairly unchanged over the years but it has now become a lot more smoother, efficient and also gets a much better power delivery. Customers also appreciate the fact the spare parts for the Honda are quite affordable and much more easy to source than others in the competition.

The Jupiter’s 113cc engine produces the same 7.9PS, while a bit higher 9.2Nm torque in normal mode, and 9.8Nm with iGo assist. This makes the scooter feel a bit more energetic while being in the city and it is a better city scooter in terms of the performance.

Underpinnings

The Honda Activa uses a steel tube frame along with a telescopic fork and a rear monoshock. The suspension absorbs undulations and bumps on bad roads with ease. Along with this, the scooter also comes with a decent size seat. The Activa 6G still misses out on a front disc brake setup, and gets drum brakes at both ends CBS (combined braking system). The base variant of the scooter runs on a 12-inch front and a 10-inch rear steel wheel setup while the top end, H-Smart variant gets the alloy wheels of the same sizes. It comes with 90-section tyres at both ends, weighs 106kg (kerb), while the underseat storage is a low 18-litre.

The TVS Jupiter also has a steel tube frame, with a conventional telescopic fork and a rear monoshock. This suspension provides a perfect setup for a plush city ride and a stable highway commute. Only the top variant gets a front disc brake, while all the other, lower variants have front drum brake. All variants have a rear drum brake and CBS (combined braking system). It runs on large 12-inch alloy wheels at both ends which should provide much better stability than the competition. At 106kg (kerb), it weighs the same as the Honda Activa, but gets a much bigger 33-litre underseat storage and a 2-litre cubby hole on the front apron for maximum convenience.

Features

The Honda Activa uses a basic analogue speedometer with a digital inset in all the models. However the top-spec H-Smart variant comes with a 4.5-inch TFT console with smartphone connectivity. It also supports features like turn-by-turn navigation, SMS/call alerts, vehicle locator, keyless ignition. Other than this, it also gets an LED headlight, but halogen indicators and tail light.

The Jupiter 110’s base Drum variant gets a basic instrument console with an analogue speedo and a digital inset. The other variants get an LCD console which supports smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and SMS/call alerts, but misses out the fancy features that the Activa H-Smart has. However, the Jupiter gets a smart iGo assist which gives the engine a mild boost under sudden acceleration which makes it slightly quicker for city usage.

Comparing  all the variants of both the scooters, it is clear  that the Honda is more expensive to buy.

Both of these scooters offer a  similar real world performance. However,  the Jupiter has a slight advantage of the boost from the iGo assist feature. Both of these scooters are quite well-equipped in terms of looks, but the Jupiter is a lot more practical with a much bigger undereat storage. For someone who needs a tech-loaded scooter, getting the top spec Smart variant of the Activa 110 makes a lot of sense. That said, the mid and top spec variants of the Jupiter offer all the usable set of features one need on a daily basis
