  • Nearly 44,000 models are said to have been affected.

Harley-Davidson has initiated a worldwide recall for its Street 750 and Street 500 models over faulty brakes. Customers of the Street models manufactured 2016 onwards have been requested to visit Harley-Davidson dealerships to have their bikes checked for brake defect. If found to be faulty, the brake components will be replaced free of charge. This defect is said to have affected nearly 44,000 Street models worldwide.

The fault lies in the brake calipers, specifically the piston bores. On specific models, the piston bores got corroded, causing the brake pads to rub against the disc. This caused the brakes to drag, thus reducing braking performance and efficiency. In worse scenarios, the brakes could lock as well.

The Street 750 is Harley-Davidson India’s entry-level model. Although it isn’t known how many models have been affected in India, yet, the brand is following a similar procedure for recall as it has been internationally. This would be the second recall for the Street 750 model in India, the first one being back in 2015 for a defective fuel pump seal. Harley-Davidson had launched the bike at the 2014 Auto Expo. It was later updated with a dual-channel ABS in the later part of 2016. Harley’s entry-level cruiser is priced at Rs 5.33 lakh (ex-showroom India).
