Honda XR 300L Vs Yamaha R15: Image Comparison

The Honda XR 300L is a dual-sport bike by Honda. It was recently unveiled in India and gets rugged styling, long travel suspension, and a punchy 293cc engine. Here's how it compares to the Yamaha R15 V4 with the help of images:

Despite having a larger engine compared to the Yamaha, we expect the Honda XR 300L to be similarly priced to the Yamaha R15 V4. This is due to the Honda being made in India and using a tried-and-tested engine.  

Design

Details 

• The Yamaha R15 gets a typical supersport design with its low clip-on handlebars, split seats, and full fairing.

• The XR 300L, on the other hand, is a dual-sport bike with a wide handlebar, a single-piece seat, and long-travel suspension.

• The Yamaha gets a projector headlight and sleek LED DRLs, which increase its sporty appeal, while the XR 300L gets a typical enduro-styled front end with a LED headlight and integrated LED DRL.

• The R15 gets chunky road-biased tyres, a long upswept exhaust, and a sleek tail section.

• The XR 300L, on the other hand, gets dual-sport tyres, a high-mounted front fender, and a high-mounted exhaust, which gives it a rugged look.

• The Yamaha comes with nine colour options, while there is no confirmation regarding the colour schemes for the XR 300L.

There is no getting confused between the designs of these bikes. Both look stylish and modern. However, you'll prefer one over the other depending on your preferences.

Engine & Gearbox

Details 

• The Honda bike gets a bigger engine, which is also shared with the (now discontinued) CB300F, producing more power and torque than the Yamaha.

• The main difference is in how the engines are tuned. The Yamaha's engine gets Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) and is a free-revving engine that makes its power at higher RPMs.

• The engine on the XR 300L should be tuned for strong bottom- and mid-range torque, making it easier to ride in the city and on trails, with fewer gear changes required.

The engine on the XR will feel more relaxed, while the Yamaha's engine rewards being pushed hard.

Features

Details

• Both bikes are equipped with an LED headlight and an LED taillight. The XR 300L gets LED turn indicators, while you can only get LED indicators as standard on the Yamaha R15M and MotoGP Edition. The other variants get halogen turn indicators.

• The XR 300L gets a negative LCD console similar to the now-discontinued CB300R, while the R15 can be had with either an LCD console or a 5-inch TFT display.

• The Yamaha R15 gets Bluetooth connectivity as standard, along with turn-by-turn navigation and call and SMS alerts. The Honda, however, does not come with Bluetooth connectivity, even as an option.

• Both bikes get dual-channel ABS and traction control. However, the XR gets switchable ABS, which will be useful while going offroad.

Overall, the Yamaha R15 takes the crown in the features department as it gets essential features such as Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.

Underpinnings

Details

Probably the biggest differences between the two bikes are in their underpinnings.

• The Yamaha bike gets a Deltabox frame, an inverted fork, and a linked monoshock, all of which have been tuned for track use.

• The Honda XR 300L, on the other hand, gets a conventional fork and a monoshock. Its long-travel suspension will be tuned for off-road riding.

• The R15 also gets clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs, which give it a sporty riding position. The Honda, on the other hand, gets a wide handlebar and a neutral footpeg position. This should make it it more comfortable and better suited for riding off-road.

• The R15 rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends, while the XR 300L gets a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup.

The Honda will feel much more comfortable in the city compared to the Yamaha R15. However, if you want a sporty riding experience, you'll prefer the Yamaha.

The XR 300L is a dual-sport bike built for adventure and trail riding. It has comfortable riding ergonomics that make it better suited for daily use, and with its long-travel suspension, you can also take it off-road with ease.

The Yamaha R15, on the other hand, is for someone who wants a proper sportbike experience. With its high-revving engine, sporty looks, and riding dynamics tuned for the racetrack, it delivers a much more engaging riding experience. However, it will not be as comfortable to ride in the city compared to the XR 300L.
