The Honda CB125 Hornet and the Hero Xtreme 125R are aimed at younger riders who want sporty looks, good performance, and everyday usability. While they share the same broad purpose, the price difference between the two is hard to ignore.

The Honda CB125 Hornet looks sharp and aggressive, standing out clearly from its siblings like the Honda Shine or Honda SP 125. The inverted front fork, split seats, and muscular tank give it more road presence.

Powering this Honda bike is a 123.9cc, air-cooled engine producing 11.14PS and 11.2Nm. It’s smooth and refined especially at city speeds. Performance is adequate for daily commuting, with comfortable cruising speeds of around 80-85kmph.

The Hornet feels light and agile, making it enjoyable in traffic. However, its suspension is on the firmer side, which means rough roads and sharp bumps are felt more. Braking is handled by a front disc and rear drum, with single-channel ABS.

It gets a 5-inch colour TFT with Bluetooth connectivity, and overall build quality is typical Honda: clean, solid, and well put together.

The Hero Xtreme 125R takes a slightly different route, focusing more on mileage and safety at a lower price point. Its design is similarly bold and muscular to the CB125, making it look much bigger than it actually is.

It has a 125cc, air-cooled engine that makes 11.56PS and 10.5Nm. On paper, it makes slightly more power but less torque. In real-world riding, the Xtreme feels smooth, especially at higher speeds, and performs well both in the city and on the highway. It can cruise comfortably at 80-90kmph and feels less stressed on longer rides compared to the Hornet.

One of the Hero’s biggest strengths is fuel efficiency. It delivers excellent mileage in city conditions and remains reasonably efficient on the highway as well. Ride quality is also more comfortable, with the suspension handling broken roads better than the Honda.

Where the Xtreme really stands out is safety. The top variant comes with dual-channel ABS – something no other bike in this segment offers at this price. The braking performance is strong and confidence-inspiring. The instrument console is simpler than the Hornet’s TFT and feels a bit cluttered, but it covers all the essentials.

Which One Is the Better Buy?

The CB125 Hornet is about Rs 10,000 more expensive than the Xtreme 125R’s top variant. For that extra money, you get a more premium-looking bike, better fit and finish, and a colour TFT display. It’s well-suited for beginners who want a stylish, easy-to-ride commuter and value Honda’s refinement and brand reliability.

The Hero Xtreme, however, offers stronger overall value. It’s cheaper, more powerful, more fuel-efficient, comfortable, and safer thanks to dual-channel ABS. It also performs better on highways, making it a more versatile everyday motorcycle.

If you prioritize looks, premium feel and a high-quality display, the Honda Hornet is worth considering. But if you’re looking at pure value for money – performance, mileage, comfort and safety for the price – the Xtreme clearly comes out ahead.
