LED indicators, better features and more, Yamaha India’s sportiest bikes now flaunt a lot of new bits

Yamaha India has begun a new chapter by launching the updated R15 V4 and the MT-15 V2.0 in India. These are among the first flex-fuel bikes to go on sale in the nation.

Talking about the MT-15 V2.0 first, the streetfighter now finally gets dual-channel ABS, something that we thought was a major miss when the bike was launched earlier last year. Adding to the safety net is a traction control system. While that may sound like an overkill on a 150cc bike, it’s nice to have its backing.

Finally, the sporty naked now comes with LED indicators, which further accentuate its appeal. Prices for all the colourways of the bike have been pegged at Rs 1,68,400, meaning a hike of Rs 3,000-4,000, depending on the variant you compare it with.

If you thought that was impressive, wait until you hear about the new Yamaha R15 V4. The baby supersport too, now comes with LED indicators as standard. What the R15M will now come with, is a Yamaha R1-inspired TFT console, making it the only bike in the 150cc segment to get one, in addition to the LED indicators.

It looks neat and easy-to-read in pictures and we hope it’ll be the same in person too. The TFT console shows SMS and call alerts, phone battery levels, fuel consumption, last parking status, maintenance recommendations and a lot more.

The engines, on both bikes, are still the same 155cc liquid-cooled ones, making 18.4PS. The R15 V4 makes 14.2Nm, while the one on the MT-15 V2.0 makes 14.1Nm, the same as before.

The Metallic Red, Dark Knight and Racing Blue are priced at Rs 1,80,900, Rs 1,81,900 and Rs 1,85,900, all carrying a Rs 1,000 hike in the asking price. At Rs 1,93,900 (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), the R15M Metallic Grey now carries a Rs 2,500 hike in its price. When you think about it, the tangible updates for the two bikes not only justify the increase in the asking price, but they’re also updates we’ve been asking for. And now we patiently wait for the marque’s big bikes to arrive
