[Update: The new and updated R3 could launch in India at Yamaha’s upcoming event on November 11, 2025]

Yamaha recently launched the 2025 R3 in Japan, which now gets updated styling and colour schemes along with new updates. We compare the new supersport with its previous iteration, on paper and here are the differences and similarities between the two:
Differences
Price
The new Yamaha R3 is priced at JPY 6,60,000 (approximately Rs 3.78 lakh) in the Japanese market, while the current Yamaha R3’s price is also pretty close at Rs 3,59,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), but was slashed by almost Rs 30,000 due to GST 2.0
Design
The new R3 has definitely become more stylish and appealing with the updates and now features a sleeker tail-section along with a redesigned front fairing. The India spec R3 also gets sporty looks with a bit older design but is still desirable.

The new R3 gets three colour scheme options: Deep Purplish Blue Metallic, Matte Dark Gray Metallic, and Matte Yellowish White. The India spec R3 is offered in just two colour schemes: Icon Blue and Yamaha Black.

Features
On the features front, the new R3 gets an LCD-instrument console with smartphone connectivity via the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect (Y-connect) application with call and SMS alerts. It also gets a riding log function that captures last parking location, movement history, and average fuel consumed during each ride. The India spec R3 misses out on these features and only gets a LCD instrument cluster.
The updated R3, available in Japan, also gets a slip-and-assist clutch for smoother gearbox operation and to prevent wheel-lockup during aggressive downshifts for increased safety.

Both the bikes are still powered by the same 321cc. Liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing 42PS and 30Nm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The underpinnings have remained the same as well, with both bikes getting a 37mm inverted fork and a preload adjustable monoshock for suspension setup. Both the bikes get an accessible seat height of 780mm, weigh 169kg, and come equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 110-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres.
