This is the Italian scooter’s first comprehensive update since its 2016 launch

(Update: Aprilia has launched the 2021 SR 160 and the SR 125 in India. Here's the full story)

A week after the spy shots of the 2021 Aprilia SR 160 surfaced on the web, the Italian brand officially announced the sporty scooter’s arrival. Aprilia will launch the 2021 SR 160 and SR 125 this month and will begin pre-bookings soon. Interestingly, this time, the SR 125 too will have the Race and Carbon trims.

The 2021 Aprilia SR 160 receives a bunch of cosmetic and functional updates. For starters, the scooter gets new, sportier bodywork and a sleek LED headlight flanked by LED DRLs. There’s also a new split-seat setup and grab rails.

Another highlight of this update will be the fully digital instrument console likely to be borrowed from the Aprilia SXR 160. So, expect a similar layout and optional Bluetooth connectivity.

The 2021 Aprilia SR 125 is likely to get the same set of updates as its bigger sibling. However, we expect the instrument console to be carried over from the current model. The bikemaker may offer the all-digital console as extra or as a separate variant like the current model.

Both scooters will unlikely feature any changes to the mechanicals. Currently, the Aprilia SR160 produces 11PS and 11.6Nm, while the SR 125’s 124.45cc mill churns 9.92PS and 9.7Nm.

The Aprilia SR 160 is priced at Rs 1.06 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard model and Rs 1.13 lakh for the Race variant. The SR 125 is priced at Rs 94,668 onwards. We expect the new models to demand a premium of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.

We reckon that at the new prices, the scooters may end up being rather costly, especially with the Yamaha Aerox 155 and TVS NTorq 125 Race XP in the picture.
