Honda Showcased Africa Twin at 2016 Auto Expo

Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India has showcased its new adventure bike Africa Twin aka CRF 1000L at the 2016 Auto Expo. As we had already reported earlier about the showcasing of this bike at the expo, the company has finally unveiled it. The all-new Honda Africa Twin is the machine that will let you wander wherever your adventures take you. It will be available in two variants and is speculated to be priced around Rs. 18.5 lac for the top variant. However with the localisation of parts, the price may come down. This Africa Twin makes its foot strong as it is an extreme touring model with panniers and touring accessories in tow. It is company’s second model after CBR650 that is developed in India. It seems like the Japanese manufacturer is now adopting the 'make in India' concept, slowly and gradually. The fact that makes this Honda Africa Twin special is that the bike has proved in capabilities in one of the most difficulties races, The Dakar Rally. 

The 2016 Africa Twin come in two variants and is powered by a 998cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 8-valve parallel twin engine with a 270 degree crank that comes mated to Constant mesh 6-speed manual/6-speed DCT w/ ?on- and off-road riding modes. The powerful motor develops a 94bhp of power at 7500rpm and peak torque of 98Nm at 6000 rpm. It has been equipped with 18.9 liters fuel tank and has a seat height of 871 & 851 mm.

Built on a light-weight semi-double steel frame, the bike is fitted with 90/90R-21 front and 150/70R-18 rear tubeless tyres. In terms of Braking, the bike features a dual 310 mm and single 256 mm wave disc brakes at the front and the rear, respectively, along with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as a standard in both variant and dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) gearbox on the top variant. The DCT model sports a switchable on and off-road riding modes which enhance the bike’s capabilities as per the rider’s requirement. The bike is loaded with 45mm Showa cartridge inverted fork at the front and Pro-Link single shock with hydraulic preload at the rear.
