Let's check whether or not the powerful 250cc engine is enough to knock the most stylish 155cc sportbike.

Bajaj updated its portfolio with the addition of the new Pulsar F250. It is the biggest Pulsar yet -- powered by a 249cc engine -- but it is still Rs 32,319 (ex-showroom Mumbai) less than the entry-level sportbike, the Yamaha R15 V4

So if you seek performance, which of the two should you pick? Let us simplify.

Acceleration:

R15 V4

Pulsar F250

0-60 kmph

5.42 seconds

3.94 seconds

0-100 kmph

13.54 seconds

10.00 seconds

The Yamaha R15 V4 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled engine producing 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm. The Pulsar F250 draws power from the all-new 249cc oil-cooled engine that delivers 24.5PS at 8,750rpm and 21.5Nm at 6,500rpm. The power-to-weight ratio of the R15 V4 and Pulsar F250 is 0.129PS/Kg and 0.149PS/Kg, respectively. This difference was also evident in the real world, where the Pulsar F250 felt a bit faster to ride.

Roll-on Acceleration:

R15 V4

Pulsar F250

30-70kmph

7.44 seconds

4.97 seconds

40-80kmph

7.36 seconds

6.75 seconds

The same story here. The Pulsar F250 accelerates quicker compared to the R15 V4. The Pulsar's new 249cc unit delivers peak power and torque at a much lesser rpm, translating to a strong mid-range. Also, the gearing is on the taller side, helping the F250 perform better in the roll-on test.

Braking:

R15 V4

Pulsar F250

80-0kmph

32.04m

34.38m

60-0kmph

18.05m

18.79m

The R15 V4 employs 282/220mm discs at both ends, assisted by dual-channel ABS. The Pulsar F250, on the other hand, gets 300/230mm discs assisted by single-channel ABS. The Yammie's 10mm wider rubber at the rear and 22kg less kerb weight help it stop faster than the Pulsar F250.

Fuel Efficiency:

R15 V4

Pulsar F250

City

55.20kmpl

48.73kmpl

Highway

60.56kmpl

43.67kmpl

Thanks to the smaller mill, lesser weight, more aerodynamic bits, and the six-speed gearbox (that offers flexibility on the highway), the Yamaha R15 V4 returns more kmpl in the city as well as on the highway.
