New Glamour Xtec 2.0 could be launched first, possibly followed by an updated Xtreme 125R to take on the Honda CB125 Hornet

India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is all set to introduce new motorcycles in the 125cc category. This was confirmed by the brand officials in a recent earnings call. The upcoming 125cc Hero bikes are planned to be launched during this festive season.

Hero has been dominating the 100 to 110cc commuter motorcycle market for a really long time, but in the 125cc segment Honda has been a consistent leader with only the Shine 125 and SP125 in the game. If we compare the sales figures of Hero’s Super Splendour, Glamour and Xtreme 125R combined, the numbers are almost 70% lower than Honda 125’s monthly sales. With these new launches Hero aims to improve its game in the 125cc segment as well.

The first of the two upcoming motorcycles is expected to be the Hero Glamour Xtec 2.0. In fact, the bike was recently spotted. The spyshots reveal that the bike is going to get some segment first features including a TFT console, ride-by-wire throttle and cruise-control. With these features, this new variant of the Hero Glamour 125 will be more premium, while retaining the sober design that isn’t as angular and sporty as the Xtreme. Expect the Xtec 2.0 to be launched in a couple of months, possibly during the Dusshera/ Diwali time. The bike could cost around Rs 8,000 more compared to the Xtec’s current price of Rs 95,098 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The other possible launch could be an updated version of Hero’s popular Xtreme 125R. This could be launched towards the end of the year. Currently, this 125cc sporty commuter offers a perfect blend between striking design, performance and affordability. However, the new version is expected to get similar updates as the upcoming Glamour, including a TFT screen. Additionally it may also have small tweaks in terms of styling. Whether it will get an inverted fork remains to be seen, but we’d like it if it comes with a dual-channel ABS as it will improve the safety quotient considerably.

As of now the Xtreme 125R is priced at Rs 1,02,100 (ex-showroom) for the top-end variant, which makes it Rs 18,000 cheaper than the introductory price of the Hornet. Expect the updated Xtreme 125R’s pricing to go up by around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000, depending on the updates.

As you can see from the table, Hero has a lot of catching up to do as Honda dominates the 125cc segment, primarily with the Shine 125 as it’s not only the best-selling bike in India, but is also often the second best-selling bike as a whole, in the country. With the upcoming launches, Hero intends to offer premium 125cc options not only for the feature-conscious commuter, but also for the youth seeking the latest in tech.
