The Apaches might sound similar, but differ in multiple ways including design, engine, chassis and more

TVS Apache RTR 160 2V vs 4V

TVS has launched the 2022 Apache RTR 160 2V and 180 2V, and has made sure to pack the bikes with many modern features. However, what exactly is the difference between the RTR 160 2V and 4V? We find out via detailed pictures.

Design

The very first difference is the design language that both bikes follow. The Apache RTR 160 4V adopts more of an aggressive streetfighter styling with a muscular fuel tank and chiselled fuel tank extensions. It gets sporty lines across the body which is complemented by the aggressive looking LED headlight and DRLs.

On the other side is the RTR 160 2V which gets more of a simpler styling and commuter-friendly design as opposed to its younger sibling. Even in its latest iteration, the overall design stays the same with just a redesigned LED headlight and taillight units.

Engine

While both bikes get a 159.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the Apache 160 4V’s heart has two extra valves. This helps the bike produce 17.55PS at 9250rpm and 14.73Nm 7250rpm. On the other hand, the RTR 160 2V generates 16.04PS and 13.85Nm, which is 1.51PS and 0.88Nm less than its four-valved counterpart.

While the 4V already enjoyed three ride modes - Urban, Sport and Rain, the 2V only got it in its latest 2022 iteration. What the ride modes do is that they change the throttle mapping and ABS sensitivity accordingly.

Underpinnings

While the Apache RTR 160 2V gets a double cradle Synchrostiff frame, the Apache RTR 160 4V uses a similar frame in a split configuration. Unlike the dual shock absorber suspension, the younger sibling features a monoshock unit tuned by Showa.

The Apache RTR 160 2V drum variant weighs 139kg kerb, which is 5kg lighter than the 4V’s drum variant, whereas the disc variant of the 2V tips the scales at 140kg - 1kg lighter than its 4V counterpart.

Features

TVS Apache RTR 160 2V Console

The 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 2V gets a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and TVS’ SmartXonnect with voice assist. The 4V, too, gets a similar digital console with Bluetooth, however, it misses out on voice assist. For more details on what the updated RTR 160 2V gets, read our launch story here.

In its latest iteration, the Apache RTR 160 2V commands a premium of around Rs 4,000 over its predecessor and is priced uncomfortably close to its more modern sibling. However, the RTR 160 4V, at just a little bit more money, gives you a sportier and modern-looking bike which is more powerful and features better underpinnings.
