Some of these products really changed their brands’ fortunes

The 2018 Auto Expo witnessed the arrival of quite a number of two-wheelers. However, it is always the humble commuters which bring up the bulk of sales for any brand. Here are the top two-wheelers that grabbed eyeballs at the show:

Honda Activa 5G - Average Mileage: 56.55kmpl

Honda updated its most popular scooter, the Activa, to comply with BS4 emission norms. Called the Activa 5G, the scooter also featured an all-LED headlamp for the first time in its segment. It was also the first BS4-compliant scooter in the market. The Activa 5G went on to become one of the best selling two-wheelers in the country, dethroning the legendary Hero Splendor multiple times. The scooter starts from Rs 55,934 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base variant.

It comes with a tested mileage of 58.1kmpl in the city and 55kmpl on the highway. Now, Honda has recently launched the next-generation version of the scooter, the Activa 6G, whose details can be found here.

Honda Xblade - Average Mileage: NA

The introduction of the Honda Xblade at the 2018 Auto Expo came as a surprise for many of us enthusiasts. That’s because there had been no sightings of the test mules nor any details about the specifications of the bike before its expo debut. It came with a radical and aggressive looking design but at an affordable price point.

In essence, the motorcycle was the perfect middle ground between the sober-looking Honda CB Unicorn 160 and the sporty Honda CB Hornet 160R. The bike is currently priced at Rs 89,136 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike is powered by a 162.71cc single-cylinder motor which churns out 14.12PS and 13.9Nm. On the other hand, the Hornet makes 0.97PS and 0.6Nm more.

Suzuki Burgman Street - Average Mileage: 54.8kmpl

For quite a long time after the Kinetic Blaze, there were no maxi-scooters in the Indian market. But Suzuki finally brought the maxiscooter segment back from the dead with the introduction of a properly European-looking maxi-styled scooter, the Burgman Street

It shares its powerplant with the Access 125, and makes the same amount of power and torque as well (8.7PS and 10.2Nm). The tested mileage of the Suzuki Burgman Street stands at 54.9kmpl in the city and 54.7kmpl on the highway, which is pretty impressive for a 125cc scooter. Other notable features include a small apron-mounted windshield, LED headlamp and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Hero Xtreme 200R - Average mileage: 38.79kmpl

Despite the snazzy sticker work, the Hero Xtreme 200R is a very conservative looking motorcycle. But what makes it stand apart is its aggressive price tag of Rs 93,400. Hero is offering customers a proper 200cc motorcycle for the price of a naked 150. Also, the 199.6cc single-cylinder air-cooled carburetted motor, producing 18.4PS and 17.1Nm, offers better performance than most of the 150cc and 160cc nakeds.

But sadly, it isn’t as efficient as the 150cc motorcycles. In our tests, the Hero Xtreme 200R returned a mileage of 40.69kmpl in the city and on the highway, the mileage dropped to 36.90kmpl. One of the reasons for such a low highway fuel efficiency figure is that it gets only a 5-speed transmission.
