Proven ADV vs upgraded sibling: which one suits you better?

    X pulse 200 vs 210

The Hero XPulse range has played a major role in making adventure motorcycling more accessible in India. Ever since the XPulse 200 was introduced, it has been one of the most affordable dual-purpose motorcycles on sale, offering genuine off-road capability without demanding a premium price tag.

The XPulse 210 takes the formula a step further. It is not merely an update to the existing motorcycle but a substantially upgraded machine featuring a larger liquid-cooled engine, revised chassis components, improved suspension and additional performance.

Let's see how these two adventure motorcycles from Hero Motorcycles compare against each other:

    • The Hero XPulse 200 4V continues to be the more affordable option in the lineup. Its base variant starts at Rs 1.48 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-end Pro variant remains below the entry price of the XPulse 210.
    • The XPulse 210 commands a premium of roughly Rs 18,000 over the base XPulse 200 4V.

    • Hero MotoCorp also keeps the XPulse 200 4V’s lineup broader. Buyers can choose between the base model for everyday use and the Pro variant, which is specifically aimed at riders who spend more time tackling trails.

    • The XPulse 210 has a simpler variant strategy consisting of Base and Top trims. This makes the buying decision easier while allowing Hero to offer different levels of equipment.

    • Buyers looking for value for money are likely to prefer the XPulse 200 4V, whereas those prioritising improved performance and touring capability may find the premium for the XPulse 210 worthwhile.

    Kerb weight

    161kg (Pro), 159kg (Base)

    170kg

    + 9kg (Pro), 11kg (Base)

    • The XPulse 210 has a longer wheelbase, which generally translates to better straight-line stability during highway touring. This should make it feel more planted at higher cruising speeds.
    • The base XPulse 200 4V matches the XPulse 210's 220mm ground clearance, but the Pro variant significantly increases this figure to 270mm. That extra clearance allows riders to tackle rocky trails and larger obstacles with greater confidence.

    • Seat height is another major differentiator. At 825mm, the base XPulse 200 4V remains approachable for a wide range of riders. The XPulse 210 is only marginally taller at 830mm, meaning accessibility remains largely unchanged.

    • The XPulse 200 4V Pro, however, raises the seat height to 891mm. This makes it better suited to taller and more experienced off-road riders.

    • Both motorcycles use identical 13-litre fuel tanks, so touring range will depend primarily on engine efficiency rather than tank capacity.

    • The XPulse 210 is noticeably heavier than either version of the XPulse 200 4V. It could make low-speed manoeuvres and technical off-road riding slightly more demanding.

    • Hero has retained the unmistakable XPulse design language across both motorcycles, with a tall stance, slim bodywork, raised front mudguard and long-travel suspension.

    • The XPulse 200 4V looks simpler and its compact proportions reinforce its image as an affordable dual-purpose motorcycle that can comfortably switch between city streets and dirt trails.

    • The XPulse 210 appears more mature. Revised body panels, sharper graphics and improved detailing give it a more premium appearance without losing the rugged character that defines the XPulse family.

    • Overall, both motorcycles remain purpose-built adventure bikes, but the XPulse 210 carries a slightly more upmarket visual identity.

    • Both motorcycles have almost identical wheel sizes and braking hardware, ensuring they retain genuine off-road credentials.
    • The XPulse 210 benefits from a larger 41mm telescopic fork, which should provide better rigidity during aggressive riding and improved front-end feedback.

    • Suspension travel presents an interesting contrast. The standard XPulse 210 offers more travel than the standard XPulse 200 4V, making it better equipped for broken roads and moderate trail riding.

    • The XPulse 200 4V Pro remains the undisputed off-road specialist. With 250mm of front wheel travel and 220mm at the rear, it offers considerably more suspension movement than the XPulse 210.

    • Both motorcycles have dual-channel ABS, improving safety during road riding while maintaining confidence on loose surfaces.

    • Since tyre dimensions remain identical, both bikes should deliver similar grip characteristics. However, suspension tuning and weight distribution will influence the overall riding experience.

    • USB charging allows riders to keep their smartphones or navigation devices powered during extended journeys.

    • The Xpulse 210 has a TFT instrument console while the Xpulse 200 4V has an LCD instrument console.

    • The Xpulse 210 gets three ABS modes - Road, Trail and Off-road. The TFT console and the ABS modes give the Xpulse 210 a clear edge in this segment.

    20.7Nm at 7,250rpm

    Gearbox

    5-speed

    6-speed

    • The XPulse 200 4V is powered by a proven 199.6cc air-cooled engine that has earned a reputation for reliability, simplicity and ease of maintenance. Its output is sufficient for city riding and moderate highway touring.
    • The XPulse 210 is powered by an all-new 210cc liquid-cooled engine that produces considerably more power and torque. The increase of nearly 6PS transforms its highway capability, allowing it to cruise more comfortably at higher speeds.

    • Torque has also increased by over 3Nm, giving the XPulse 210 stronger acceleration and better overtaking performance.

    • Liquid cooling offers another important advantage. It maintains more consistent engine temperatures during demanding riding conditions, whether on highways or slow technical trails.

    • The XPulse 210 also receives a six-speed gearbox. The additional gear helps maintain highway speeds better while cruising, improving refinement during long-distance touring.

    • The XPulse 200 4V's five-speed transmission remains perfectly adequate for most riding scenarios but cannot match the flexibility offered by the six-speed unit.

    • Riders focused primarily on city commuting and occasional trail rides will likely find the XPulse 200 4V's performance sufficient. Those planning frequent highway trips or carrying luggage will appreciate the stronger engine of the XPulse 210.

    Verdict

Both motorcycles stay true to the XPulse philosophy of delivering capable and affordable adventure motorcycles, but they target slightly different buyers.

The Hero XPulse 200 4V remains the best entry-level adventure motorcycle in India. Its lower price, lighter weight and simpler mechanical package make it approachable for beginners and experienced riders alike. The Pro variant further strengthens its appeal for enthusiasts who spend significant time riding off-road thanks to its taller suspension, increased ground clearance and superior wheel travel.

The Hero XPulse 210, meanwhile, has a more complete adventure touring package. Its liquid-cooled engine delivers a substantial increase in power and torque, while the six-speed gearbox and revised chassis improve long-distance comfort. Although it is heavier and more expensive, it offers noticeably stronger performance and greater touring capability.

If your riding is largely limited to commuting, weekend trail rides and occasional highway trips, the XPulse 200 4V continues to offer exceptional value for money.

However, if you regularly cover long distances, want stronger highway performance and are looking for the most capable factory-built XPulse to date, the XPulse 210 justifies its higher asking price with meaningful upgrades across almost every major area.

    Comparisons With Other Rivals:

Kawasaki KLX 230: The Hero Xpulse 200 4V is more affordable and has the better all-round package as an entry-level ADV while the Kawasaki KLX 230 is built solely for tackling off-road trails and rocky surfaces.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: The Hero Xpulse 200 4V is more affordable and offers better off-road capabilities but the Scram 440 offers better touring capabilities.
