Triumph TE-1 Latest Updates
Triumph’s electrification plans have finally come to fruition. The second phase of the project, codenamed ‘Project Triumph TE-1’, showcases its prototype system, which includes a frame, battery, and motor to be provided in Triumph's upcoming electric bike. The British bike maker has joined hands with Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain, and WMG (at the University of Warwick) for the resources and expertise to build Triumph's electric motorcycle.
Not much is known about the bike's specifications, except for its expected power output. Built by Integral’s e-Drive division, the bike’s bespoke motor puts out close to 180PS and weighs just about 10kg! For reference, the Speed Triple 1200 RS makes about the same power through its 1160cc inline-triple motor.
The battery and battery management systems may be responsible for most of the weight on the TE-1. But it’s still expected to be lighter and more compact than conventional ICE-powered motorcycles. Chances are, it’ll be lighter than Triumph’s Street Triple and Speed Triple bikes as well.
The bike maker says it's aiming to get its prototype up and running by the end of 2021. A production model, though, may take a bit more time. So, one can expect to see the TE-1 hitting Triumph dealerships by 2023 at the earliest.
