Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 Review: Highly Desirable!
An electric Royal Enfield. Blasphemy or prophecy?
Even before the motorcycle made its debut, a lot of questions had been asked about the Flying Flea C6. Is it really a Royal Enfield? Why does it not look or feel like a Royal Enfield? And why is Royal Enfield making an EV to begin with? With a price tag of Rs 2.79 lakh, the Flea is expensive! Sure, you also get Baas (Battery as a Service) which further reduces the price to Rs 1.99 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom), but it still is an expensive proposition. We finally got to swing our leg over the motorcycle to answer most of these questions, and more.
Design and Build Quality
In pictures, the Flying Flea C6 looks ‘malnourished’. And that is by design because it has been closely modelled on the original Flying Flea that was dropped onto battlefields via a parachute, which meant it had to be light and small. The same aura of the motorcycle has been retained. The Flea is slim, tightly packed, and looks rather small. But when you see it in person, what stands out is not the size, but the style.

The Flea is premium! Royal Enfield, in this new era, has been stepping up its quality game, which has been evident in motorcycles like the Classic 650. This, however, is a new benchmark. Every single panel, plastic or metal, has been made to make a statement on quality. The exposed metallic frame, paint finish, magnesium battery case, handlebar grips, girder forks, and even the lights are flagship Royal Enfield material—and that's a big compliment. This continues to the overall build quality and fit. The switchgear feels premium, all panels sync seamlessly, and the finish of the metallic parts sets a new benchmark.

As far as I know, there are three colour options. Green and black we saw at the ride, of which I preferred the green with the silver frame. There is also a grey shade on the website that might or might not be launched. Overall, yes, the Flying Flea is not a typical Royal Enfield. And yes, it is definitely not to everyone’s taste—especially those who feel bikes should get bigger as the cost goes up. But the one who appreciates quality over size will enjoy it.
Features
While Royal Enfield believes that the aura of the engine is the biggest feature of their motorcycles and hence strays away from features, the set available on the Flea more than makes up for the lack of it. And it's not just the list but the execution that takes the spotlight. Our Flying Flea C6 feature explainer elaborates on every feature the Royal Enfield electric bike has to offer.

First, let's go over the list. You do not get any physical key for the Flea. You can set a 5-digit passcode that you punch in via the touchscreen when you get on the bike or pair your phone via the app. While the convenience of a key or even a remote key fob is missed, the bike takes no time to boot up and let you ride. There is also a wireless charger sitting under the tank flap but that gets the phone too hot, and I won’t keep my phone there.

First ever for a Royal Enfield is a TFT touchscreen display. The only touch input it takes is the aforementioned passcode. The rest of the navigation is controlled via buttons on the left switchgear. The menus are easy to navigate, information is clear, the screen is crisp, and the brightness is impressive. It even gets Google Maps navigation mirroring from your phone. The bike has a 4G connection for connectivity and can receive OTA updates, along with relaying important information back to your phone remotely, like charge status and live location.

Then comes safety tech. There is dual-channel ABS and traction control, both of which can be customised for intervention and switched off as well. Also, there are 5 ride modes, 2 separate regen settings, and a way to customise 6 ride parameters to your liking. All of these make a difference in the way the motorcycle rides and are not just gimmicks.

However, there is an issue. The buttons on the switchgear feel similar and are closely packed together, which makes using them while riding a bit confusing. Even if you get used to them, they are still too far from the handlebar grips, and even with an L-size hand, you will have to stretch to reach them.
Riding Posture & Comfort
Riding posture is one of the backbones of a good motorcycle. And the Flying Flea does not have a particularly strong spine. You see, the slim nature of the motorcycle means it gets a rather small seat. This makes getting comfortable on the saddle a bit difficult. What's more difficult is spending time on it, as the cushioning and size mean you get just 15-20km before your back starts to get sore.

Get over this, and the rest of the posture is good. At 124kg kerb, the motorcycle is lighter than some scooters, and it feels light on its feet. The seat height at 823mm is on the taller side (Classic 350 is 805mm), and shorter riders might not be able to flat-foot it. But the lightweight makes it easier to manage. Also, there is a reverse mode to help park the bike in tight or inclined spaces. Plus, the footpegs are adjustable. They are centre-set, but you can swap them to make them forward-set if you are looking for a more cruiser-like posture.
Motor, Performance and Range
Electric motors are tricky to read with their output figures because no matter how much the peak power is rated at, what you experience is a result of code that determines how that power is deployed, not to mention the multiple ride modes. However, I am glad to tell you that the Flying Flea feels lively.

The riding modes include Eco, Rain, Highway, Sport, and Custom. The Eco mode is, as expected, laid back and slow, but not to a fault. You can still use it in the city to extend the range. The Rain mode trims initial throttle response but still lets you get to a higher top speed than Eco.
The fun starts from the Highway mode. The Flea starts to feel eager to build speed, and overtaking becomes effortless. The throttle response is trimmed enough to not feel jerky, but once it starts building speed, 80kmph comes up in no time. This is the mode you will stay in most of the time.

If you are in a hurry or in a spirited mood, the Sport mode will indulge. The Flying Flea is fast. 80kmph in under 6 seconds puts it on par with 250cc motorcycles. And because the acceleration is instantaneous, it feels sportier. It takes no effort crossing 100kmph, and even the limited top speed of 115kmph comes up easily.
Finally comes the Custom mode. It has to be one of the most elaborate customisation suites available on a motorcycle. You can tune ABS, traction control, power, throttle response, coasting regen, and braking regen. And all of these can be adjusted across multiple levels—not just on or off—which makes the riding experience truly customisable.

While riding, the modes can easily be switched via a rotating switch on the left grip. However, you cannot change the regen modes on the fly—you will have to stop, enter the menus, and then alter the settings. An easier on-the-fly switch would have been appreciated.

Let’s talk about range. Ride sensibly in the city, and you can expect about 110km from the motorcycle. Go all out, and that total range can drop to 60-70km. The good thing is that the charging speeds are fast. There is an onboard charger, so you just have to carry a cable, and the bike can juice up 1km for each minute of charge. The cable can plug into any 220V socket, which makes charging all the more practical.

Handling & Ride Quality

The Flea packs the performance equivalent of a 250cc motorcycle with tyre sizes of a commuter (90/90 - 19). This does put the handling abilities of the bike under question. But the Flea can hold its own. The tyres neither struggle to put the power down nor affect cornering ability. The bike is quick to turn in and holds its line well. The tyres offer decent grip, and the motorcycle feels light and easy to manage. Even in traffic, switching between lanes and overtaking feels easy. Overall, a fairly easy and fun motorcycle to ride.

The comfort too feels good. While there is a slightly stiff edge to the suspension, which makes you feel small imperfections on the road, the bike remains stable and comfortable. Especially over speed breakers and rough patches, the cushioning keeps the harshness away, and you feel well insulated. Only on sharp bumps do you feel the impact. It’s tuned for our city conditions, and the balance between sporty handling and comfort is good.
Verdict
The impression that the Flying Flea leaves me with is a rather positive one. This is Royal Enfield's first electric bike—but certainly not the last. And as their first dabble with cleaner mobility, it's fantastic. Right from the build quality to the features and riding experience, Royal Enfield took no shortcuts. This is not a half-hearted attempt at going electric, but rather a serious one, which makes me excited for the rest of the EVs coming up, starting with the S6. However, it's not perfect. A better seat and easier ergonomics will make it a lot more appealing. This is a motorcycle you should seriously consider if you are looking to buy an electric one.

Priced at Rs 2.79 lakh, Royal Enfield do not see this as a mass-market motorcycle and are looking to target premium customers. Smaller volumes won’t hurt them, as the Flea will not be a breadwinner. This makes the C6 a premium indulgence—reserved for someone who wants the bike to show off rather than commute every day. It will end up being an addition to your garage, offering exclusivity. If you can spend close to Rs 3 lakh on a statement, the C6 will not disappoint. Take a closer look at the Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 in detailed images, before you buy one.
