    Expert Review

    BikeDekho Experts
The Triumph Tracker 400 is a niche tracker-themed motorcycle that’ll appeal to those who want a powerful 350cc Triumph but also not as aggressive as the Thruxton 400. Its unique flat track-themed design isn’t as intimidating as the taller Scrambler 400, while also being just about capable of taking on gravel.

    Introduction

    triumph tracker 400

Triumph has finally launched the Tracker 400 in India, expanding its entry-level 400 range of bikes further. The Tracker is based on the same platform as the other 350cc Triumph bikes but gets different styling and a more powerful engine tune. The 350cc Tracker 400 has been priced at Rs 2,46,225 (ex-showroom, Delhi), placing it right between the Triumph Speed 400 and Triumph Scrambler 400 X. The Triumph Tracker 400 is offered in a single variant. Having said that, Triumph is likely to increase the price of the Tracker 400, as well as the rest of the 350cc bikes from the brand.

    Design

The Tracker 400 gets a flat-track-inspired design with a slim fuel tank, flat seat, compact tail section, and number-board-style panels. It also gets a wider handlebar for a more aggressive stance. It is available in 3 colour options, all priced the same: Aluminium Silver Gloss, Racing Yellow, and Phantom Black. The colour schemes are all fairly loud, and will attract eyeballs wherever you go. Here’s a closer look at all the colours of the Triumph Tracker 400.

    Features

    Safety Features

Triumph has equipped the 350cc Tracker 400 with a premium Bosch dual-channel ABS, and a switchable traction control system. These should ensure optimum grip on wet roads or gravel.

    Convenience Features

It gets the same features as all other Triumph 400 bikes: all-LED lights and a semi-digital console. The digital part shows the odometer, tachometer, two trip meters, fuel gauge, distance-to-empty, and clock. There’s no smartphone connectivity at all.

    Rider And Pillion Comfort

    Rider Comfort

The Triumph Tracker 400 is meant for sporty riding, complete with your elbows out. So consequently, it has a wide handlebar, rear-set footpegs, and a flat-track inspired rider’s seat. Don’t expect to be super comfortable for long-distance touring, but if aggressive short-distance riding is your thing, you’ll find it appropriate.

    Pillion Comfort

The Tracker 400 gets a seat cowl, which will have to be removed to accommodate the pillion. Expect it to be just about comfortable for short commutes.

    Engine, Mileage & Performance

The Tracker 400 is powered by a 349cc engine that makes 40PS and 32Nm – same as the Triumph Thruxton 400, making it slightly more powerful than the other Triumph 350cc bikes.

    triumph tracker 400

    City & Highway Performance

The engine has more than enough grunt for city riding, and is peppy enough for highway stints too. That said, the flat-track themed design means you’re exposed to winds while riding at higher speeds. As far as the Triumph Tracker 400 mileage is concerned, the brand claims 27.7kmpl, which isn’t all that bad for a sporty 350cc bike.

    Gearbox

The Tracker 400 uses a 6-speed transmission with slip-and-assist clutch, which ensures the wheel doesn’t lock up while shifting down rapidly. The assist mechanism also ensures the lever action is easy enough to let the rider crawl comfortably on traffic-riddled roads.

    Handling & Ride Quality

    Brakes

The Tracker 400 uses a 300mm front disc with radial caliper, and a 230mm rear disc. This coupled with the dual-channel ABS means it should offer adequate braking performance.

    Handling & Ride Quality

The bike comes with a USD fork, monoshock, and 17-inch wheels with MRF RevZ FD1 block-pattern tyres at both ends. It should be comfortable enough for urban riding, and with the block pattern tyres, it should be able to take on gravel roads as well. It may not be as trail-friendly as the Scrambler 400 X as the latter gets longer travel suspension, that too with a larger front wheel.

The kerb weight is 181kg (2kg lighter than the Thruxton 400). At 805mm, the seat is pretty accessible too. In fact, it is only 2mm taller than the Speed 400. The fuel tank capacity is 13 litres. The ground clearance is 162mm, which is 2mm lower than the Speed 400.

    Rivals To Consider

The 350cc Triumph Tracker 400 is a unique motorcycle in its segment with no natural rivals. The closest alternative is the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, but the Royal Enfield bike gets a much more powerful engine. If you want a more comfortable riding posture, then you may also consider the Speed 400 from the brand's own lineup. Do note that it's less powerful than the Tracker 400. It will also go up against the upcoming KTM 350 Duke.
